Though it’s the birthplace of Alfred Hitchcock and David Lean, and boasts masters such as Mike Leigh and Ken Loach still working at the top of their game, there’s also a rich tradition in British cinema of what one could politely call the “sex comedy”. It began with the light smattering of smut provided by the “Confessions...” series of the 1970s and evolved into the slap-and-tickle blarney of the “Carry On…” movies. In the 2000s, we thought it’d reached the summit of what the fetid sub-genre could achieve with the risible “Sex Lives of the Potato Men,” “Lesbian Vampire Killers, ” and “Three And Out”. But now we have Jonathan Newman’s “Swinging With the Finkels,” the trailer for which promises the less-than-edifying spectacle of Jerry Stiller getting hit in the crotch with a vibrator.

Last week, fans got a very early treat when the first official stills from the film hit the web and it looks like the filmmakers aren't being shy about showing off a little bit more.

To say that anticipation for Peter Jackson's two-part "The Hobbit" is running high would be an understatement, but luckily for fans of the franchise, the director has gone into the next two films allowing a pretty big window into the world he's conjuring up down in New Zealand. With frequent Facebook updates and communication with fans, it's perhaps not too surprising that the first official look at the film has arrived pretty much right in the middle of production.

One of the many, many early difficulties facing Peter Jackson's two-part prequel to his "Lord of the Rings" series, "The Hobbit," was that "The Office" star Martin Freeman, the director's first choice for the lead role of Bilbo Baggins, was committed to shoot a second series of the BBC's hit Arthur Conan Doyle reboot "Sherlock" this summer. If you haven't seen the show, from "Doctor Who" head honcho, and "The Adventures of Tintin" scribe, Steven Moffat, and former "League of Gentleman" member Mark Gatiss, it's pretty ace: there was one duff episode in the first three, but the other two were smart, funny, genuinely thrilling and an entirely successful reinvigoration of one of the most famous characters in popular literature.

As It Turns Out, Martin Freeman & Anthony Mackie Are Also In The Cast Anna Faris is an extremely talented comedienne. There's no denying that. Ever since her early appearances in the "Scary Movie" franchise, she's shone, even with material that's generally far beneath her. But every time it looks like she's heading for the A-list -- the surprise success of "The House Bunny," for instance, or demonstrating her range in "Brokeback Mountain" -- the next few projects tank, and she's reduced to playing straight woman to talking CGI animals in "Yogi Bear."

After something of a roller coaster year, with an endlessly sliding start date, the bailing of director Guillermo Del Toro, and nearly losing preferred lead Martin Freeman, "The Hobbit" is finally gearing up to shoot in the new year, with Freeman joined by new cast members like Richard Armitage, James Nesbitt and Aidan Turner, as well, possibly, as the rumored likes of David Tennant, Michael Fassbender and Saoirse Ronan.
