Even before his name became tangled in the web of associations and secrecy that is Marvel's upcoming film slate, Vin Diesel was an absolute master of suggestion — just one “Fast & Furious” tidbit or Riddick-related image was enough to draw speculation to his impressive Facebook page. But then excitement really peaked when the actor revealed in June that Marvel had reached out to him; we thought the matter then settled when his voice/motion-capture role as talking tree Groot in “Guardians Of The Galaxy” was announced, but now it appears the original meeting had different intentions after all.

The saga of the unmade, on-again, off-again "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" could be a movie unto itself. And actually, it is, with the documentary "Lost In La Macha" capturing Terry Gilliam's first failed/cursed attempt to bring the Tony Grisoni-penned picture to the big screen. And since then, the movie has moved in fits and starts, with money sometimes coming together only to fall apart, as cast members such as Ewan McGregor, Robert Duvall and the long attached Johnny Depp (who is now working on his own 'Quixote' movie at Disney) have come and gone. But the filmmaker has pursued and completed other projects, including the forthcoming "The Zero Theorem" which is gearing up to make its debut in Venice in just a couple of weeks. However, it appears 'Quixote' nearly happened, again.

Sure, Warner Bros. is finally making the tentative steps towards the inevitable “Justice League” movie along with the much-discussed “Superman vs. Batman” movie, but the studio is still way behind what Marvel has done with their cinematic universe. Since the surprise success of “Iron Man” in 2008, under Kevin Feige, the company has rigidly mapped and guided the increasingly complex universe from box office success to box office success. In an interview with Wired, Feige sheds some light on what the future holds for the comics giant.

With Marvel now boasting a couple of billion dollar movies under their belt, the ever-growing movie studio is now stretching their tentacles outside the summer season and into the fall, and onto the small screen as well. And with "Thor: The Dark World" and "Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D." both arriving in the coming months, comic book fans won't be left waiting long for their next dose of spandex.

While cross-property narratives may push the possibilities of comic-book films into new frontiers, the notion can also grind to a halt once character rights come into question. Such is the case with superhero mutants Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who both play into upcoming sequels “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and therefore the equally held rights of Fox and Marvel. But the idea of side-by-side depictions hasn't fazed Joss Whedon, who said they're a “huge part of ['The Avengers 2'],” and now it seems one-half of his duo is nearing a lock.

Well, that was kind of anti-climactic. With Warner announcing an untitled Superman & Batman film for summer 2015 earlier today, fans at Comic-Con were hoping that Marvel Studios would try and top the rival studio with various possible announcements. After all, there's plenty of options, there's been an abundance of talk about Phase 3 films and Marvel has planned two dates for 2016 (May 6, July 8) and one for 2017 (May 5) without revealing what those films will be. But it wasn't meant to be if you were hoping to find out what they were. If you were expecting to receive announcements about "Dr. Strange" or "Black Panther" movies, or more casting about the "Avengers" sequel, it didn't happen.

Geez, Marvel's Phase Two is barely underway and we're already rumor-mongering about Phase Three. Such is the internet these days we suppose. With "Doctor Strange" essentially confirmed as being in the playbook for Marvel's third wave of comic book movies, chatter continues about who will take on the mighty mantle. Back in the spring, it was Justin Theroux who was said to be in consideration but now a starrier name is being mentioned, if there's any veracity to this latest bit of news.

12 Years A Slave
Of course, making Oscar predictions this early in the game is a fool's errand, with six months to go until the end of the year, campaigns are starting to take shape and the picture for the awards season is beginning to get a little bit clearer. And one move that's already on the tip of everyone's tongue is Steve McQueen's star-studded "12 Years A Slave." And feeling the hype, Fox Searchlight is looking to make the movie their Oscar horse.
