Masters Of The Universe
Despite a risibly poor first attempt with Dolph Lundgren and a lot of aborted efforts in the late aughts, Sony Pictures hasn’t given up on trying to bring their He-Man movie “Masters of the Universe” back to the big screen. After all, imagine all those franchise possibilities if it hits, since aside from “Spider-Man,” Sony is currently the studio sorely lacking in franchises. A recent attempt almost happened with Jon M. Chu, the director of “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” but he bailed last year. Terry Rossio ("The Lone Ranger" and every "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie) has penned the most recent version of the script and is eager to bring this franchise back to life, and Sony has apparently narrowed down the field for replacement directors.

With "G.I. Joe 3" in the mix and rumors of "Star Trek 3" as well, it would appear that director Jon M. Chu had one blockbuster too many on his plate. So, sorry He-Man fans, you'll have to wait a bit longer for your movie.

Break out the pens (or laptops), as some new scribes have been hired to get some long-in-development projects off the ground. First up is Universal’s long-gestating remake of "Creature from the Black Lagoon." "The Hunger Games" filmmaker Gary Ross has been trying to get this project off the ground for several years because his father, Arthur A. Ross, wrote the original 1954 movie. Over the years, he has written a script, as did Tedi Sarafian ("Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines"), but obviously neither of them came to fruition.

You see that image up there? That's every reason why Sony and Mattel are teaming up to try and bring He-Man, Skeletor and the rest of "Masters Of The Universe" characters to the big screen. It's all about toys and merchandising and you can bet that watching Hasbro milk "Transformers" to over $2.5 billion worldwide over three movies, they want to taste some of that mozzarella (ie. cheese = money).
