The Normal Heart
First staged off Broadway in 1985, Larry Kramer's acclaimed play "The Normal Heart" is undoubtedly a product of its time. Written and performed during the early stages of the 1980s AIDS crisis, a period which saw the gay community gripped by fear of the emerging disease, and ravaged by a shocking death toll, Kramer's work is searing indictment of governmental indifference and those who refused to fight unreservedly to get the necessary resources and funding to foster support groups and research. Kramer's play was also autobiographical, drawing on real-life people as inspiration for the characters, with the end product something as personal as it was polemical. More than 25 years later, "The Normal Heart" was revived on Broadway in 2011, and now it comes to HBO in a star-studded movie adaptation, with an aspiration towards the same fury the material evoked decades ago. But unfortunately, that passion oddly leaves the movie feeling a bit out of time in 2014.

The Normal Heart
Okay, so "The Normal Heart" didn't make the Cannes Film Festival lineup like I figured it would, but that doesn't mean we're not putting this one on our watch list for next month. A new trailer is here to remind you why you might want to tune into HBO in May to watch something other than "Game Of Thrones."

At the recent Los Angeles press day for “Magic Mike,” which tells the story of a successful stripper who takes a newcomer under his wing, there were a lot of questions about thongs – certainly more than are usually asked at a press conference. But with director Steven Soderbergh at the helm of the film and the center of the panel of contributors who brought it to life, much more was ultimately discussed than just where the cast purchased their undergarments, and how they chose the ones that they felt best represented their characters’ personalities.

The opportunities for ladies to see leading men take it off at the movies are few and far between, and usually relegated to dumb action flicks or in heavy period dramas with Vaseline on the lenses. But for Steven Soderbergh's stripper pic "Magic Mike" he's lining up the man meat with Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Matthew McConaughey already set to star. Well ladies, you might want to undo that top button because things are getting hotter.

Colin O’Donaghue Also In The RunningYesterday, massive news broke that Henry Cavill had won the role of Superman in Zack Snyder’s new adaptation for Warner Brothers. Cavill is best known for his work as Charles Brandon on “The Tudors," but as predicted, the role went to a relative unknown, and someone who has experienced his fair share of audition hell. Cavill had been eyed to wear tights for "Batman Begins" and "Green Lantern" (among other franchises) and he even once before landed the role of Superman when it was in McG's hands, but lost the part when the project changed over to Bryan Singer who eventually went with Brandon Routh for "Superman Returns."
