Man, we totally forgot about this. First announced nearly a year ago, Metallica and "Predators" director Nimrod Antal revealed they were embarking on a concert movie, that also would have some kind of narrative. We all kind of rolled our eyes and said "Cool, whatevs" and then nothing much else was heard. But today the movie lands with a new company, a release date and even an actor in the thing.

Continuing their downward trajectory from badass metal gods, to aging hard rock clowns, Metallica are now doing something that puts them in the same category as Justin Bieber and Katy Perry: they're making a 3D movie. The project was first announced last fall before their dreadful Lulu album with Lou Reed dropped. But it seems there is no bad idea that can keep these guys down, and now their project has a director.

Well, the result of one of the unlikeliest collaborations in some time here. As reported about a month ago, Darren Aronofsky took a gig directing the first video from Metallica and Lou Reed's absurd Lulu album, and it's now in the can and ready for your eyes. Considering the whole musical collaboration is based on German expressionsist Frank Wedekind's controversial plays about a serial killing teenage prostitute, the video for "The View" (not "Iced Honey" as first reported) is surprisingly tame.

Will Probably Look Great, Sound AwfulWith "Noah" not set to film until next year, and now probably looking for a new leading man since Christian Bale is gonna spend his 2012 tossing back brews with Terrence Malick as they embark on two films together, Darren Aronofsky is likely looking to keep his directing skills a well oiled machine, so what the hell, he's just gonna go direct a video for Metallica and Lou Reed.

Former metal giants, and now aging rock 'n roll dudes Metallica, have been on the wrong end of many decisions in the past while. If you're had the misfortune of hearing their forthcoming collaboration with Lou Reed, you'll know exactly what we mean. Or just look above at their ridiculous poses for the "Guitar Hero: Metallica," something these dudes wouldn't have even considered when their hair was longer and their tunes more badass. Or hell, even Lars Ulrich admitted recently he didn't get Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill" and never followed up with the director when he asked to use their music for fight scenes in the movie. Although, that probably worked out for the best.
