Now that speculation seems to have been quashed over whether Michael Giacchino would inherit John Williams’ spot on J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars” gig, the question then turned to where the “Star Trek Into Darkness” composer would land next, besides the Wachowskis’ “Jupiter Ascending.” But in record time, Giacchino has continued to prove himself one of the most sought-after in the business, and attached himself to another successful sci-fi franchise.

In the instance of top directors announcing their latest projects, you can bet a select few composers are confidently clearing their calendars for work to come. But while Christopher Nolan and Peter Jackson rely on Hans Zimmer and Howard Shore for iconic scores, both composers in turn hold parts of franchise iconography for iterations to come -- a matter thrown into relief lately with J.J. And while the jury is still out on whether the film will live up to the cult status of the Edgar Rice Burroughs source material or the money that has been spent on the project, at the very least, the reliable and always solid Oscar winner Michael Giacchino is scoring the film, so if that even if our eyes aren't pleased, our ears will be.

Just as his hero Steven Spielberg has John Williams, writer/producer/director J.J. Abrams has stayed true to composer Michael Giacchino. The man has tuned up every one of Abrams' films to date, in addition to working on shows he's produced like "Lost" and "Alias," and once again, they will put their talents together on another project.
