Wet Hot American Summer
Michael Showalter has done a little bit of everything in the world of comedy, film, and television. He’s perhaps best known for being a member of sketch comedy groups such as "The State" and "Stella" and for writing “Wet Hot American Summer” with David Wain. Wain and Showalter have recently collaborated on another film, “They Came Together,” which premiered at Sundance last month (our review) and, hopefully, it will come out in theaters later this year. One thing you may not know is that Showalter has also been working on the ABC show “Super Fun Night,” which is in the middle of its first season.

They Came Together
A parody that loves, knows and understands what it’s mocking, David Wain’s “They Came Together” (co-written with Michael Showalter) lovingly nuzzles up to the plots, clichés and tropes of the modern big-studio rom-com specifically, only to then slash at the jugular to spill their anemic, overly sweet blood. It knows how to mock cliché big things, like jokes about set-dressing and music video montages; it’s also wise about small matters, right down to the font and the framing device.

Anyone watching "Parks and Recreation," which wraps up its fourth season tomorrow night on NBC, at the moment is being treated to a match up between two of the finest comic performers of their generation, in the electoral battle between Amy Poehler's Leslie Knope and Paul Rudd's Bobby Newport. And while their battle for the Pawnee council seat should be wrapping up, it looks like we're going to see more of the pairing in the very near future, this time on the big screen, with the two stars set to reunite with the team behind one of their earliest filmic comedies.

It was only this past summer that David Wain teased he was thinking about making a followup to the cult classic "Wet Hot American Summer." It's hard to believe that the film is now over ten years old, but the wild summer camp comedy proved to be a launching pad for a boatload of names like Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Ken Marino, Joe Lo Truglio, Amy Poehler, Judah Friedlander and many, many more. While the film fizzled at the box office, taking in a paltry $300,000, it was on DVD where the fervor for the movie grew, and where the word of mouth propelled it into must-watch status. And it looks like Wain and co-creator and longtime collaborator Michael Showalter aren't done yet.
