Woody Allen's 'Midnight In Paris' To Open The Cannes Film Festival

While there were rumblings that some other high profile films might open this year's Cannes Film Festival including Terrence Malick's "The Tree Of Life" and "Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," the organizers have resisted the allure of the tentpole and have gone with a still relatively safe choice, selecting Woody Allen's "Midnight In Paris" to kick off festivities.

Another year, another Woody Allen film. And say what you will about his more recent output, for this writer at least, the yearly Woody Allen movie is a comfort, like an old friend returning for a visit and a pleasant entry on our film calendar.
