Nachrichten aus Berlin! That's “news from Berlin” to you English. But although it's from Berlin, it's about Rio de Janeiro, which is confusing. But yes, news has arrived that John Turturro and Vanessa Paradis (who paired up in his upcoming directorial effort "Fading Gigolo") have signed on for a segment in the forthcoming “Rio, Eu Te Amo” — and if you don't speak Portuguese, you can work it out from the previous films in the series of city-focused anthologies, “Paris, je t'aime” and “New York, I Love You,” the first of which was a surprise success back in 2006.

A little bit of "writers hired to adapt things" news this Sunday afternoon. DreamWorks has hired Mike White (“School of Rock,” the recently-cancelled “Enlightened”) to adapt the latest novel from Matthew Quick, author of “Silver Linings Playbook.” Quick’s “The Good Luck of Right Now” will be published Spring 2014 and is about a man who takes care of his mother with dementia and falls for a librarian who believes she and her brother were once abducted by aliens.

Small update from earlier in the week: the Natalie Portman-produced “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” is obviously a hot project and multiple directors have been circling it after David O. Russell bailed on it for "Drake's Fortune" (and the 300 other projects he's attached himself to), including Mike Newell (”Prince Of Persia: The Sands of Time”), Neil Marshall ("Centurion”), David Slade ("The Twilight Saga: Eclipse"), and Jonathan Demme.

Ever since David O. Russell left the director's chair on the Natalie Portman-produced "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," a number of names have been linked as contenders to helm the film including Mike Newell ("Prince Of Persia: The Sands of Time”), Neil Marshall ("Centurion”), David Slade ("The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”), Jonathan Demme, Matt Reeves, Mike White ("Year Of The Dog”) and the directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller ("Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs"). It's a strong list of names but it appears the unlikeliest contender has taken the pole position in landing the gig.
