So remember way back when names like "Girls" star Allison Williams and "Fruitvale Station" lead Michael B. Jordan were being tossed around as possible contenders for "Fantastic Four"? Well, that list just got a helluva lot longer.

As always, the wheelers and dealers in Hollywood are inking contracts and getting movies made, and quite a bit of movement has happened over the last week and a bit, so let's just dive right in...

The Spectacular Now
Given their volume, scope and scale, studio blockbusters naturally consume the moviegoing conversation every summer, and a good chunk of the audiences' money. But given the iffy quality of this season's tentpoles ("The Lone Ranger," "The Hangover Part III," "After Earth," "The Wolverine" et al), 2013 is likely going to go down as the summer when the indie alternatives made for much richer options. Just look at August, it's overflowing with good indie choices, and one of them likely to long outlive the lifespan of fare like, "Red 2," "R.I.P.D." and "White House Down" is James Ponsoldt's "The Spectacular Now." A smart, well-observed and sensitive coming-of-age film, the movie also boasts two terrific performances by up and comers Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley (and note it has a fairly rare 90% Rotten Tomatoes score; check out our Sundance review here).

Miles Teller Fantastic Four
Okay, let's take a moment here: the first time Fox attempted "Fantastic Four" they rounded up Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis. A pretty ragtag bunch, all being said. For their second kick at the can, recent reports seem to suggest they are going younger. "Girls" star Allison Williams has been linked to Sue Storm, while Michael B. Jordan might light up as The Human Torch. And next? Well, another young face is being eyeballed for another key role.

The Spectacular Now
Sutter Keely (Miles Teller) is the charming, good time guy who lives in the moment. Self-assured, he’s the life of the party, popular, and he and his girlfriend Cassidy (Brie Larson) breeze through their high school experience. Sutter and Cassidy are like a teenage power couple that rule parties thanks to their appeal and all the social lubricants at hand. But, writing an admission letter to the Dean of a university, Sutter reveals his life is at a crossroads. Thinking she's caught him with another girl, Cassidy has dumped him, when the truth is that Sutter was using his good-time skills to help get his timid friend Ricky (Masam Holden) laid. But Cassidy isn’t having it and Sutter can’t see why this is the straw that broke the camel’s back with her.

The Spectacular Now
Since his portrayal of a guilt-wracked young man in “Rabbit Hole” deservedly vaulted him into the spotlight, actor Miles Teller has committed to different shades of the high school/college experience. He snagged considerable parts in “Project X” and “21 and Over”—both anarchic, single-night party films—and while upcoming projects range from YA sci-fi franchises (“Divergent”) to college-graduate dramas (“Get A Job”), he first realizes a stunning take on teenage love in James Ponsoldt’s “The Spectacular Now.”

The Spectacular Now
“The Spectacular Now” should be on your list of movies to see next month. Our own Rodrigo Perez enjoyed the film when he caught it at Sundance earlier this year, calling it a “darker, sadder, and pained” version of “(500) Days of Summer.” Recently, a wealth of material’s been released, from the trailer to posters and images in anticipation of its release.

Shailene Woodley, Divergent
So Shailene Woodley, who will no longer appear in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and is reportedly being replaced in part 3 all together, got kicked in the teeth today, right? That and the fact that there were those vile comic book nerd posts a while back questioning her attractiveness (like those guys wouldn't dream to sit next to her, let alone date her). Meh, not so much. In fact, it's kind of been her day. She showed up in the trailer for "The Spectacular Now," this morning, one of Sundance 2013's biggest hits and now new images of "Divergent" have been released. What's "Divergent"? Well, a sci-fi-ish young adult movie adaptation that looks like it's going to be as popular as "The Hunger Games" if audience fan buzz is any indication.

The Spectacular Now
We've been keeping an eye on Miles Teller, ever since he impressed us opposite Nicole Kidman in the underappreciated "Rabbit Hole." And Hollywood has taken notice as well, with the actor's day planner getting increasing filled with gigs and projects, and he's got no less than three movies in post ("Get A Job," "Two Night Stand" and "Are We Dating Yet?") along with an imminent blockbuster as well ("Divergent"). But before all that is a movie that will surely bag him more phone calls.

While Jeremy Irvine, Lucas Till and Alex Pettyfer were testing for the coveted (?) male lead in "Divergent," and certainly have more name recognition than the eventual winner, it seems their talents didn't quite match what the filmmakers were looking for. Instead, rising Brit actor Theo James has gotten the gig, in what he likely hopes will be a push into the stateside scene.
