It seems the saga of David O. Russell's "Nailed" isn't quite ready to end just yet. Or at the very least, it's not fading quietly into the night. Where to begin? We'll try and keep it brief. The once promising movie started shooting in the spring of 2008 with Jessica Biel, Jake Gyllenhaal, Catherine Keener, Tracy Morgan and James Marsden all in the cast, but things quickly went down hill. Plagued with dodgy financing, production started and stopped a handful of times as crew members waited to get paid, eventually shutting down completely with only one day of filming left to complete it.

The saga continues for David O. Russell's "Nailed," his aborted, troubled farce that he walked away from last year, but is still in the hands of financiers who are trying to get some kind of finished product released. Shooting on the film — written by O. Russell and Kristin Gore, daughter of Al — began in 2008 but was plagued by multiples delays and financial struggles on account of David Bergstein's shady dealings. Despite all that, production was noted to be only days away from completion with formerly silent partner Ron Tutor coming out from the shadows last year in an attempt to make something of the "$26 million just sitting on a shelf." And while O. Russell has officially walked from the film, about a month ago, a screening of an extremely rough cut of the film played for an early test audience (you read reader feedback here) and at the time, it was noted the film was presented with an oldies soundtrack that we surmised was a temp track. Looks like we were right.

Says The Film Is "Great" And Features Strong Performances From Jake Gyllenhaal & Jessica Biel; Reveals That He Was Screamed At The First Day On SetThe sordid saga of David O. Russell's aborted "Nailed" continues. The short version of the story goes like this: production on the film was stopped and started numerous times as shady financier David Bergstein kept running out of money and eventually the film shut down completely with only one scene left to be filmed. The movie has since changed hands to new owners who are eager to finish the film, but David O. Russell has washed his hands of the movie, and moved on to shoot the critically acclaimed "The Fighter." Just over a week ago, a test screening for the film happened in California and according to a reader report sent to us, the film was in very, very raw, rough shape.

While he's squarely back on top and the memory of controversial past dust ups are long in his rear-view mirror, filmmaker David O. Russell probably hoped 2008, not 2010/11, would prove to be his comeback year.

We had the opportunity to chat with David O. Russell about "The Fighter" recently (more from that conversation soon), but during our discussion with the director, we had to ask what had he been up to since "I Heart Huckabees" hit theaters in 2004.
