Back in 2011 it was reported that Nick Cassavetes was gearing up to direct a biopic of the notorious former drug kingpin, Rick Ross (not the rapper, fyi). Cassavetes also penned the script, which focuses on Ross’ early days as a crack cocaine dealer in Miami. The story gets its weight from the fact that Ross was supplied by Contras who were busy fighting the Nicaraguan government at the time, and also just so happened to be funded by officials in the Reagan administration. After working on the project for a couple of years it looks like Cassavetes has finally settled on a leading man…and it’s “America’s Got Talent” presenter Nick Cannon....

Last fall, a project entitled "The Other Woman" cropped up with Cameron Diaz linked to star, and Kristin Wiig was said to be "under consideration" for the co-starring role. And then nobody heard anything about it again. But the movie has popped back up and Diaz is back in the mix, with a director now ready to take the helm.

TIFF Review: Nick Cassavetes' ‘Yellow’ Is Daring, Bold And Just What The Doctor Ordered

Officially the most refreshing breath of air at this year’s TIFF, Nick Cassavetes’ new feature ‘Yellow’, is a step into crazy terrritory, far from his recent romantic comedy fare and "Alpha Dog." Away from traditional ways of telling stories, and towards a different type of perspective, a very different type of view, as he admitted to in the Q&A. You can’t but feel almost like a child trying to talk or review this movie because of how infectiously zany it is; think "Young Adult" on Vicodin and acid. Leading lady Heather Wahiquist puts her all into a truly memorable leading performance, and no wonder; she co-wrote the screenplay with Cassavetes. But the winner has to be the imagination behind the trippiness.

Crime, California and some unsavory characters? Yep, Nick Cassavetes has been there, done that before, with "Alpha Dog" and the director is going to get gritty once again in the Golden State.

With Nick Cassavetes bailing on the gestating "Gotti: Three Generations" film to finish up his indie production "Yellow," if everything goes according to plan he'll likely be moving on to direct the Rick Ross biopic announced earlier this year. The film will tell the story of Ross' early days as a crack cocaine dealer in Los Angeles during the 1980s. Apparently, Ross was a major player slinging up to 100 kg of the stuff per day and he claims that he was supplied by Contras who were fighting the Nicaraguan government at the time; yep, those same Contras that were funded by officials in Ronald Reagan’s administration. And a man who is no stranger to "the game" will be tuning up the movie.

So far what we've seen from the highly anticipated sequel "The Hangover Part II" hasn't impressed in the slightest. The first trailer feels like a warmed-over rehash of everything from the first film but simply transplanted to Thailand. But if anything, Todd Phillips is determined to get the small role of the Bangkok tattoo artist right. First he had planned for Mel Gibson to take the part, but objections from the cast (mostly Zach Galifianakis) put the kibosh on that. Next, Liam Neeson was called up, but as Phillips readies the film for a Memorial Day release on a tight schedule, he still didn't have the scene he wanted and now someone else is stepping into the role.

We'll give credit where credit is due. We didn't think producer Marc Fiore could pull it off. But lo and behold, he's landed a big actor to take on the lead role in the upcoming saga "Gotti: Three Generations."
