In age where the Occupy Wall Street galvanized not just those in Zuccotti Park, but folks across the country, and where Edward Snowden's revelations continue to make headlines, it's no surprise that cinema is quickly responding. Earlier this year, we saw Zal Batmanglij and Brit Marling explore off-the-grid movements in "The East," and this fall the Julian Assange saga gets the big screen treatment via "The Fifth State." But before that, the festival circuit will be treated to the latest from Kelly Reichardt, "Night Moves."

Night Moves
Will Jesse Eisenberg be the king of this year's Toronto International Film Festival? Well, he may not be the biggest name walking the red carpet but he'll be among the busiest, stumping for two movies in Canada: Richard Ayoade's "The Double" and Kelly Reichardt's "Night Moves." And with the festival now thirty days away, a little look behind the curtain has arrived for the latter.

After a weighty first announcement for this year's TIFF earlier in the week, eyes turned across the Atlantic this morning to the reveal of the line-up for the 70th Venice Film Festival, which precedes Toronto by about a week. We already knew the festival was opening with Alfonso Cuaron's hotly-anticipated 3D space adventure "Gravity," and an educated guess at the line-up could be made from looking at which films among the TIFF announcement weren't world premieres, but the official roster was revealed at a press conference in Rome this morning, and it's once more, a doozy.

Tuxedos are being rented, red carpets shampooed and cleaned and the city of Toronto bracing itself as this year's Toronto International Film Festival is now just over a month away. And this morning, organizers have dropped the first wave of titles coming to Canada, and it looks like cinephiles will be in for a big treat this year.

So is this a case of inspiration being a bit too strong on a screenplay or a producer looking to slow down the steam engine of a rival project? We'll soon find out as Kelly Reichardt's upcoming "Night Moves" is facing a lawsuit from Edward R. Pressman Film who are seeking damages and a halt to production and sales claiming the movie rips off novel "The Monkey Wrench Gang" which they are turning into a movie from "Catfish" directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.

Even after the back-to-back successes of "Zombieland" and "The Social Network," it was never quite clear if Jesse Eisenberg would be able to maintain a lasting stardom. He's an immensely talented actor, but also one who's been strongly associated with a certain kind of role, one that, like Michael Cera, risked the general public tiring of him quite quickly. But while his immediate follow-up to "The Social Network," "30 Minutes Or Less," was something of a disappointment, he's made several smart choices of late, from star-laden heist blockbuster "Now You See Me" to a dual role in "The Double," Richard Ayoade's follow-up to the acclaimed "Submarine."

While other young actors might be chasing the next hot project, few of Paul Dano's colleagues boast the kind of resume he has already assembled thus far into his career. Earning early notice thanks to turns in "L.I.E." and "The Girl Next Door," he broke out with the comedy smash "Little Miss Sunshine" and has since worked with folks like Paul Thomas Anderson ("There Will Be Blood"), Spike Jonze ("Where The Wild Things Are"), Ang Lee ("Taking Woodstock"), James Mangold ("Knight & Day") and Jon Favreau ("Cowboys & Aliens"). Not bad. And in 2012, he's already showing off a diverse slate from the indie "For Ellen" (that recently premiered at Sundance) to Rian Johnson's forthcoming sci-fi trip "Looper." And next month, he spars with Robert De Niro in "Being Flynn." We recently caught up with the actor and discussed some of things he's working on year.

For her last effort, the uncompromising western "Meek's Cutoff," the growing cachet of indie filmmaker Kelly Reichardt allowed the director to cast some bigger names than she had worked with in the past, nabbing Bruce Greenwood, Zoe Kazan and Paul Dano to pad out the ensemble. And the experience seems to have been a positive one for Paul Dano, as reps for the actor have confirmed with The Playlist that he is reteaming with Reichardt for the director's next effort, the eco-terrorist film "Night Moves."
