Lars von Trier has a new movie. It's called "Nymphomanaic." And basically, if you're any sort of cinephile, that is all you need to know for this one to be way, way up on your list of anticipated films of 2013.

It's getting on two years since Lars Von Trier made headlines around the world with his ill-advised comments at the Cannes Film Festival, while promoting his film 'Melancholia," comments which saw Von Trier deemed 'persona non grata' at the festival in future. Von Trier's been relatively quiet ever since (even swearing off press altogether), but that's surely about to change, with his two-part new film "Nymphomaniac" on the way before the year is out.

So, do you have a gritty midbuget thriller that needs two bankable stars? Call up Mark Wahblerg and Denzel Washington. And that's just what Universal did for "2 Guns," the latest in a slew of movies from both actors that sees them getting a gritty wardrobe and putting on some mean mugs as they set out to take care of bizness....

You might think that Lars Von Trier's idea to shoot an erotic drama featuring hardcore sex might scare Hollywood types away. You would be wrong. With Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell and (oddly) Christian Slater among those taking part, another unexpected name has joined the cast.

Next year will bring with it Lars Von Trier's next provocative effort, "The Nymphomaniac," but lest you think it will be one you can enjoy....alone...Stellan Skarsgard puts that notion to rest. "When we call this a porno, it's meant ironically, but irony doesn't work well in print. The film is sexually explicit -- but, believe me, it will be a very, very bad wanking movie," he told THR. So while we wait for that movie to arrive, fans of the director can travel back in time a little bit.

Having given late '80s/early '90s idol-turned-TV-hero Kiefer Sutherland a plum role in his last film, "Melancholia," ever-provocative Danish auteur Lars von Trier is looking to pull the same trick again, as Variety reports that Christian Slater is the latest unlikely addition to the director's next picture(s), his two-part drama "Nymphomaniac." Slater, mostly seen in strings of dreadful DTV actioners these days, will play the father of Charlotte Gainsbourg's lead character, joining Stellan Skarsgård, Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell and Connie Nielsen in the picture, which documents a woman's sexual life from infancy to adulthood. The trade also reveal that British model Stacy Martin will appear, playing the younger version of Gainsbourg's character.

While much of the talk about Lars von Trier's upcoming sex epic (sexic?) "Nymphomaniac" has concerned the real life sex scenes the prickly auteur is insisting the film contain. (To blur or not to blur, that is the question!), the two-part movie is also amassing an impressive cast who are set to potentially bone each other, among them Shia LaBeouf, Nicole Kidman, Stellan Skarsgard, Jamie Bell, Connie Nielson and von Trier's current muse Charlotte Gainsbourg. You can now add frequent von Trier collaborator Udo Kier to the cast of characters. We sincerely hope he will keep his clothes on, though.

While Lars Von Trier is no stranger to attracting Hollywood types to his movies, particularly with his films "Dogville" and "Manderlay," you might think his upcoming, sex-driven "The Nymphomaniac" might be the kind of project agents keep away from their talent. Guess again. Shia LaBeouf signed on earlier this month to the film being led by Charlotte Gainsbourg and Stellan Skarsgard, with Nicole Kidman and Willem Dafoe both rumored, and while the latter pair are yet to be confirmed, Von Trier's next endeavor has just added a batch of talent, including two more prominent names.

While it's been a while since we really warmed to him on screen, kudos are certainly due to Shia LaBeouf for giving his career a new lease of life of late. The 26-year-old actor started off in the Disney Channel world before graduating to blockbuster sidekick in films like "Constantine" and "I Robot," and has spent much of the last half-decade going from blockbuster to blockbuster, most notably in the 'Transformers' series and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." But John Hillcoat's "Lawless," which opens in a few weeks, seems to signal a serious sea change in the actor's career.
