To remake or not to remake, that is the question. And in general, it's not something we're big fans of. But Spike Lee taking on Park Chan-Wook's "Oldboy? Yeah, we'll roll the dice on that.

Jackson and James Ransone (our of our 10 Undervalued Actors Who Deserve To Get More), production on Spike Lee's remake of Park Chan-Wook's outstanding "Oldboy" finally began in October. However, word since then has been relatively quiet, but leading man Josh Brolin has offered his take on the project and the people surrounding it.

It's a pretty good time to be a Spike Lee fan. Not only did he drop his latest feature "Red Hook Summer" this year, he's got the critically acclaimed and pretty awesome looking "Bad 25" ready to go, opening in limited release today and hitting TVs across the nation on Thanksgiving. And the busy director isn't stopping, with work getting underway on "Oldboy" and now a release date has been stamped out.

Whether you like it or not there’s a U.S. remake of “Oldboy” on the way. Some will find comfort in the fact that it’s being brought back to the screens by Spike Lee, but others will never be won over that this is a good idea. The big names attached to the project (which is currently gearing up to go in front of cameras) are Josh Brolin, Sharlto Copley, Elizabeth Olsen, and Nate Parker. Well, at least that was the case until recently; Nate Parker has had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

Spike Lee's on the comeback trail these days -- the ever-controversial auteur roared back with his intimate, personal "Red Hook Summer" at Sundance this year, with the film hitting theaters last month, and followed it up swiftly with his affectionate, fascinating Michael Jackson documentary "Bad 25," which premiered at Venice a week ago, and will air (in slightly edited form) on ABC on Thanksgiving weekend.

Hot off his collaboration with Spike Lee in "Red Hook Summer," Nate Parker is in negotiations to star in Lee's remake of South Korean favorite, "Oldboy." Parker would play a doctor who works with Elizabeth Olsen's character. If the deal goes through, Parker would join a cast that already includes Olsen, Josh Brolin, Sharlto Copley, and Samuel L. Jackson.

While they recently shared the stage at the 2012 BET Awards, it's hard to believe that Samuel L. Jackson hasn't been in a Spike Lee movie in twenty one years; 1991's "Jungle Fever." But that's all about to change. With four feature-length collaborations under their belts (including "School Daze," "Do The Right Thing" and "Mo Better Blues"), the duo are finally going to make a fifth: Jackson has landed a small, but pivotal role in Lee's upcoming adaptation of the second installment of Park Chan-wook's celebrated vengeance trilogy, "Oldboy."

For every "Girl 6," "She Hate Me" or "Miracle at St. Anna" in filmmaker Spike Lee's oeuvre there's not only a great feature to offset it ("25th Hour," "He Got Game," "Inside Man"), but several, fantastic documentaries ("4 Little Girls," "When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts" "If God Is Willing and da Creek Don't Rise") as well. One could even argue if Lee's feature career got a little uneven later in the game (which is still very debatable), his documentaries -- some of them his best work, period -- never faltered.

So many actors and actresses have been linked with Spike Lee's "Oldboy" remake that we have trouble recalling which ones actually scored the roles but things look to be settling down with "District 9" star Sharlto Copley joining Josh Brolin, taking the villain role last week, while Elizabeth Olsen is eyeing the female lead. From early in its conception, the project has been noted as drawing more from the graphic novel source rather than being a direct remake of Park Chan-wook's film but the biggest question has always been where and how Mark Protosevich's script differs.
