Rising actres Elizabeth Olsen is certainly doing her best to put a little bit of variety on her filmography. Of course, the actress broke out in the cult drama "Martha Marcy May Marlene" and since then, she's appeared in a few different films, ranging from this year's Sundance entries, the dramedy "Liberal Arts" and the thriller "Red Lights," and this weekend she'll star in the flat out horror vehicle "Silent House." But just last week, word cropped up of another possible project, with reports surfacing that Olsen had been offered the female lead in Spike Lee's "Oldboy" remake. And as Olsen tells, she's indeed eyeing the movie and would take it the role in a heartbeat.

While Spike Lee and the team behind "Oldboy" haven't yet found their leading lady, you gotta at least respect that they are going for some pretty solid talent. Rooney Mara was the first one to be offered the female lead in the film, before passing on it while Mia Wasikowska was also sought to join before the end of the year. Alas that didn't work out either, as yet another offer is going out, this time to rising "Martha Marcy May Marlene" star and recent Spirit Award nominee Elizabeth Olsen.

We have to say, we're starting to become a little concerned about "Oldboy." Never exactly the most necessary of remakes in the first place, our interest was piqued when Spike Lee signed on to direct, swiftly followed by Josh Brolin; a talented, interesting pair who seemed to promise that this would be something a little more special than a quick-and-easy remake.

Update: Twitch also report that "Alice in Wonderland" and "Jane Eyre" star Mia Wasikowska has been offered the female lead of Marie, the part previously turned down by Rooney Mara. Curiously, the actress just worked with Park Chan-wook, director of the original "Oldboy," on his English-language debut "Stoker." Will that make her more likely, or less likely to take the part? We'll see in the next few weeks...

Despite recently confirming an offer to play the lead antagonist in Spike Lee's upcoming remake of Park Chan-wook's "Oldboy," it looks like things just haven't worked out for Colin Firth as he has now reportedly turned down the chance to star opposite Josh Brolin in the project.

As if the "offer story" wasn't bad enough, the "testing" or "reading for" stories have taken that to a lower standard. And listen, we get it. We've run those things before because a peek behind the curtain is interesting, particularly for high profile projects and it's a window into what direction studios are looking to take a project. But confirming offer stories? That seems kind of ridiculously excessive, but it's also a slow news week, so here we are.

So is regal, respectable, Oscar-winning Colin Firth ready to dirty up that nice guy image? It seems so. He was long attached to Park Chan-wook's English language feature "Stoker" as the baddie before he had to drop out, however, the blockbuster movie world is largely foreign to the actor. So this could be a huge switch up. The key word here is "could."

An actor passing on a project is generally a bit of a non-story but it's a testament to how far Rooney Mara has come that we're bringing this news to you.
