Prestige drama at film festivals is no longer just the domain of movies. Television is now becoming a regular part of fest programming (Jane Campion's "Top Of The Lake" at Sundance and Bruno Dumont's "P'tit Quinquin" at Cannes Directors' Fortnight are recent examples) and this week at Venice, HBO's "Olive Kitteridge" will get a glitzy premiere. And you can now catch a glimpse of the forthcoming miniseries with three new clips.

The Playlist's 10 Most Anticipated Films Of The 2014 Venice Film Festival
Last week we ran down our 20 Most Anticipated Films of the fall season, excluding those that only have festival berths planned and no wider releases as yet. But this week, the Venice Film Festival kicks off, initiating the first phase of the fall festival season, which runs into the tiny but mighty Telluride and the huge but also mighty Toronto International Film Festival. After that, everyone catches their breath for a couple of weeks before launching back into the fray for the New York Film Festival, which overlaps a little with the BFI London Film Festival, before AFI Fest takes us into mid-November and we all start to fret about the holidays.

Somehow, we're still getting think pieces on whether or not the movies are superior from TV, presumably from writers who haven't yet worked out that you're allowed to watch both. Ultimately, the movies can scratch itches that TV can't, and vice versa, and the two mediums can quite happily co-exist, even as the lines between them blur a little.

A yearender in TV-land is a few minutes of clips and bits that channels throw together come December to remind you what-all awesome things you saw on their screen this year and what-all further awesome things are coming your way in the next one (assuming you renew, hint hint). Behold, then, those of HBO and Cinemax: a study in contrasts.

For a while there, seeing Bill Murray in a movie was like spotting a rare animal. Tales of his being difficult to reach and non-committal even when taking film roles were the stuff of legend, but it seems these days he just really wants to work. With roles already in three 2014 films — "Monuments Men," "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and "St. Vincent De Van Nuys" — and currently shooting Cameron Crowe's next effort, Murray has already signed up for his next gig.

While Vince Vaughn is best known for his motormouth in a wide array of comedies, he's been desperate to do something a bit more gritty. Over the past while, he's been lining up no shortage of more serious-minded fare like the the thriller "The Risk Agent," the Randall Wallace-penned "Gunslingers" and road adventure "Triple Time." But it looks like another project has the momentum to cast the actor in a whole new light.

Well, once again, HBO proves that they are the masters at attracting top talent to come to their network. Just this year, their roster includes filmmakers such as David Mamet and Steven Soderbergh, the latter finally being able to make "Behind the Candelabra," his long-gestating Liberace film with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon (coming out later this month). They also have the Duplass Brothers, Cary Fukunaga, and Guillermo del Toro, to name a few, with projects on the horizion. And now you can add Lisa Cholodenko to the mix.
