Last week saw the latest Weinstein Company-backed biopic “Grace of Monaco” formally drop out of this year’s Oscar race with Harvey Weinstein citing the film’s incompletion for the delay, saying it “just wasn’t finished, the sound, anything.” While Weinstein promised a full-court press for the Nicole Kidman-led film when it was released, we’re not sure the film’s new date bodes well for the biopic.

Cannes 2013 TWC Sizzle Reel
In what has apparently become something of a tradition on the Croisette, this evening saw a select group of journalists forgo tempting Official Selection screenings to attend instead the starry, champagne-fuelled preview of The Weinstein Company’s forthcoming slate. Perhaps not quite as salivating a prospect as last year’s auteur-heavy brand-new lineup, which included early glimpses of “Django Unchained,” “The Master,” and “Silver Linings Playbook” it’s still a mark of TWC’s high standing on the awards circuit that what is essentially an invite-only marketing event got so many clamoring to attend. Well, that and the canapes (foie gras toastinis, breaded shrimp and mini eclairs, if you must know). Oh, and the presence of the legendary Harvey Weinstein.

British actor James Corden is the toast of Broadway at the moment. The 33-year-old, got his start in Mike Leigh's "All Or Nothing" and in the stage and film versions of Alan Bennett's "The History Boys," and became a household name in the U.K. after co-writing and starring in the hit sitcom "Gavin and Stacey." He's had ups and downs since then: starring vehicle "Lesbian Vampire Killers" was savaged, and supporting turns in Hollywood pictures like "Gulliver's Travels" and "The Three Musketeers" never quite helped him cross over to the U.S.

Does anyone still listen to Paul Potts? In case you forgot, he made a brief cultural splash a few years ago when he showed up on "Britain's Got Talent" and wowed audiences Susan Boyle-style, leading to a brief run of concerts and fame, before everyone moved to something else. But a movie about his life was in the works anyway, and the last we heard about it was all the way back in the fall of 2010, when "The Devil Wears Prada" director David Frankel was attached to direct. Well, belive it or not, this thing is still happening.

Written By 'The Bucket List' Scribe Justin ZackhamRemember Paul Potts? No? Basically, he was the male equivalent of Susan Boyle who a few years ago blew the roof off "Britain's Got Talent" with his audition where he showed he had the vocal chops to be an opera singer. Now, that thrilling tale will become a movie.
