Only Lovers Left Alive UK Poster
Of the many pleasures to be had within Jim Jarmusch's elegant "Only Lovers Left Alive," is the excellent, moody and evocative score by....well, none other than Jarmusch himself. That's right, the writer and director also gets behind the guitar from time to time with his band Sqürl, and teaming with Jozek Van Wissem, they've concocted a pretty terrific set of music for the picture.

Only Lovers Left Alive
Though most audiences know him as Loki, come this spring Tom Hiddleston will be playing another mythological being in Jim Jarmusch’s offbeat and really enjoyable vampiric “Only Lovers Left Alive.” Three new clips from the Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton-starring film have surfaced from France to quench your thirst.

SXSW 2014 line-up
It’s always a tough act to follow-up the Sundance Film Festival each year when it comes to the world of independent cinema, but the SXSW Film Festival generally does a good job of mixing the high and low, the populist with the brainy, and the docs with the midnight madness section. Generally a more relaxed festival aiming for a good time, the Austin-based fiesta has already announced some of its heavy hitting premieres—the “Veronica Mars” movie and Jon Favreau’s “Chef”—and now they’ve unveiled their main line-up.

20 Best 2014 Films We've Already Seen
The more OCD among us here at Playlist Towers find it a source of constant aggravation that release dates vary so much from territory to territory, and festivals often get premieres a full 18-or-so months before a film gains a proper U.S. release, that doing a cut-and-dried list of any given year’s movies becomes less science than art. And while it’s an art that has already yielded our first magnum opus of the year, the 100 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2014, (and we should probably be awarded the rest of January off as a result) there’s still a category of film we’ve left unmined: those movies that we saw and reviewed in 2013 at festivals or sneak screenings or parts foreign that won’t be in theaters until 2014.

Only Lovers Left Alive
Only Jim Jarmusch could dive into the vampire genre and instead of focusing on the fangs and blood, use it to explore existential ennui, culture, humanity and, of course, music. "Only Lovers Left Alive" finds the writer/director at his wittiest in years, delivering one of his best movies periods. And a big part of that success is down to his two leads.

Only Lovers Left Alive
From Cannes to Toronto to New York to London, as Jim Jarmusch's elegant and beautiful "Only Lovers Left Alive" has cruised the festival circuit, it has won over the hearts of various Playlist members at each stop along the way. It's easily his best film since "Dead Man" (though I'm one of the few who adores "The Limits Of Control") and will undoubtedly rank among his finest accomplishments. And while it's a hard movie to cut down to trailer form, this new international spot does a pretty nice job.
