Pacific Rim
As the summer movie season chugs along with its endless procession of superhero movies, bawdy comedies and animated extravaganzas, "Pacific Rim," a brand new sci-fi property from director Guillermo del Toro, increasingly looks like it will be one of the bright spots on the schedule – it's a go-for-broke epic about giant monsters that crawl out of the Pacific Ocean and the human-piloted giant robots that are called upon to fight them. (You know, the kind of story we can all relate to.) Well, today we've got a brand new TV spot for the monster mash, along with del Toro spilling details about what we can expect from the sequel, if this one turns out to be a graveyard smash.

It was just a few weeks ago that the first rumblings of a followup surfaced, and now it's confirmed that work is starting.

There’s been a trend as of late of directors attaching themselves to more projects than they can conceivably handle, and Guillermo del Toro is the poster boy of this epidemic. While next year’s “Pacific Rim” will be his first directorial outing in nearly five years, it hasn’t been for lack of trying (of course you'll remember he was long attached to helm "The Hobbit" but bailed as it continued to stall due to MGM's financial woes). The “Hellboy” helmer is now talking up two more projects that he intends to tackle in the future.
