With “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” hitting theaters this Friday with more Channing Tatum added, that leaves the Brad Pitt-starring zombie-disaster film “World War Z” as the last of Paramount’s troubled productions that had been pushed back from last year. With "World War Z"'s summer release date lumbering ever closer, the studio has released a new poster for the film.

2012 proved by turns an odd and triumphant year for director William Friedkin, who fashioned Matthew McConaughey's performance in the shockingly good “Killer Joe,” but also was forced into dealing with his troubled past, namely the 1977 suspense drama “Sorcerer.” Legal difficulties and lawsuits surrounding the film have plagued the past 12 months for the filmmaker, but now it appears Friedkin may finally gain some peace with his underseen gem.

Steven Spielberg Reveals Script For ‘Prisoners Of The Sun’ Is Already FinishedRiding on a big wave of positive reviews, the Steven Spielberg-directed, Peter Jackson-produced "The Adventures Of Tintin" begins opening internationally tomorrow and Sony and Paramount will be watching the ticket sales closely. The motion-capture-fueled project was always planned as a trilogy, with plan being that Spielberg would direct the first film, Jackson the second film with the duties on the final installment still not quite mapped out. However, while audiences overseas are familiar with Hergé's animated hero, he's less well known stateside and it will take a strong showing at the box-office to get the followup moving. However, if the early word is any indication, whether you grew up following Tintin in the comics or are brand new to the cowlick haired adventurer, Spielberg and Jackson's film is a pure delight and we called it "one of the best times at the movies we’ve had in a long while." So undoubtedly, the filmmakers are confident that "The Adventures Of Tintin" will connect with audiences as the sequel is already on the horizon.

While pundits wondered if J.J. Abrams could really keep the monster and mystery at the core of "Super 8" under lock and key until it hit theaters, and still draw a mainstream audience to a film with no name stars that was largely sold on the Steven Spielberg association, the proof was in the pudding. Earning over $250 million worldwide, Abrams proved that not all summer blockbusters need to be preceded by endless clips and posters, and moreover, moviegoers are willing to go into a movie a little bit blind if the payoff is worth their time and money.

Darren Aronofsky's 'Noah' Aims To Shoot Spring 2012 As Paramount Comes Aboard With New Regency

Darren Aronofsky's post-"Black Swan" ride has been as dizzying as any pirouette in the Oscar nominated film. As you already know he somewhat dramatically bailed on "The Wolverine" after much buzz had built up around him taking on the comic movie. And then just as surprisingly, it was revealed that Aronofksy was once again trying to get his long gestating "Noah" off the ground. The project has been in the works since at least 2007 and earlier in the year, it was revealed that Aronofsky was collaborating with comic book artist Nico Henrichon on a graphic novel take on the tale to spur interest in feature adaptation. Well, the roll of the dice worked, but financing for the $130 million dollar film became the next question. New Regency ponied up half of the cost with Paramount, Fox and Summit to start falling all over each other for the opportunity to pay the rest of the bills.

Plus 'Inception,' 'Star Trek' & 'Fast Five' To Get IMAX Re-ReleasesThough overruled when it came to our fall preview last week -- too many other staff members have been burned by mediocre franchise installments in the past -- this writer is really kind of excited about "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," the fourth installment in the Tom Cruise-led spy franchise. J.J. Abrams, who got closest to getting it right with "Mission Impossible III" (which has great moments, but doesn't quite hang together), has returned to produce, there's an intriguing, eclectic cast, including Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg, Tom Wilkinson, Josh Holloway, Lea Seydoux, Michael Nyqvist and Anil Kapoor, and some of the best below-the-line talent around, including "There Will Be Blood" lenser Robert Elswit and composer Michael Giacchino.

A bit of a sea change is in place for Warren Beatty's Howard Hughes film, his return to the scene after over a decade in the wilderness. After being announced as a Paramount project with studio head Brad Grey expressing their enthusiasm at reuniting with the great actor-director, the partnership has evidently broken down with The Wrap reporting that the project has now been acquired by New Regency.

Who Were The Winners And Losers Of The Summer Of 2011?

As the summer winds die down with a flat and uninspired whimper, the realization sets in: the summer of 2011 was for the birds. "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" was the last major tent-pole to open, followed by sleeper hits like "The Help" and the not-so-successful R-rated action comedy, "30 Minutes or Less." Many had forecast that the overstuffed summer would prove disastrous, with Jon Favreau predicting that, "There’s not a weekend where there won’t be teeth on the floor," but ironically it's Favreau's film that proved to be one of the biggest box-office disappointments. Financially, films did very well with three billion-dollar blockbusters – “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,” “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”-- helping the industry set a summer box-office record and nearly rebound from a horrible start to 2011 (Currently, 2011 revenue is running only 4 percent behind 2010, but in March, things were looking grim – 19% lower than the year previous).

Weekend Box Office: Audiences Stay Home In Droves As 'The Help' Defeats Weak New Releases

Credit a canny expansion strategy that nabbed “The Help” the number one spot at the box office in its second weekend of release. Disney wisely banked on the film having more buzz than the slate of underwhelming new releases (not all of it positive), and after two weekends, it’s easily one of the season’s big success stories, as the picture has crested $70 million after only twelve days of release. The establishment has been encouraged - stories of the struggles of minorities highlighted by the heroism of a plucky white person of higher social strata are surefire earners, particularly if you market to families. Institutionalized racism at its most efficient.
