Gone Girl Ben Affleck
"Gone Girl" certainly has a lot of variables at play. On the one hand, it co-stars Neil Patrick Harris and Tyler Perry, not the names you might immediately associate with a David Fincher film. On the other hand, it's based on a bestseller by Gillian Flynn (who wrote a new ending for the film), it brings Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross back to score, and the material is right in Fincher's thriller wheelhouse. The result? Well, judge for yourself, as the first trailer is here.

Few literary adaptations are as hotly anticipated as David Fincher's "Gone Girl." The novel by Gillian Flynn was a bona fide literary sensation, selling more than two million copies in print and digital editions by the end of its first year of publication, and every aspect of the film's casting has been obsessed over. With Ben Affleck in the role of Nick Dunne, whose wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) mysteriously vanishes, leaving him as the prime suspect, it was just a matter of filling out the supporting cast, something that is very near completion with Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit and Carrie Coon joining the film and Tyler Perry confirmed for a role.

All it takes is one little film to bust down a taboo, and so it's seemingly been done with Steve McQueen's "Shame." The critically-acclaimed drama was a rare picture to tackle the question of sex addiction, and while it hasn't quite opened the floodgates, it's made it easier for other filmmakers to tackle the subject matter.

Patrick Fugit Joins Him In 'B.B. King And I'We suspect we've said this before, but, while we love basically every character on HBO's much-missed masterpiece "The Wire," our favorite may have been Detective William 'Bunk' Moreland, as embodied by Wendell Pierce, the warm beating heart of the show, but capable of regular badassery (watch the Season 3 confrontation with Omar, one of the great pieces of television acting by both Pierce and Michael K. Williams, for proof). Like many of the show's stars, the 49-year-old actor has gone on to bigger, if not better, things -- he's currently one of the key cast members in David Simon's 'Wire' follow-up "Treme," and before the year is out he'll crop up in both the comedy "Horrible Bosses" and in mega-franchise film "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Pt. 1." But it looks like he's finally landed a long overdue starring role.
