Peanuts
"It's long overdue," Charles Schulz's son Craig Schulz told USA Today about the "Peanuts" movie. "The fans have been asking for a long time, but we held off until the time was right." We're not sure anybody was asking for a 3D, slickly animated take on Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the gang. But it's coming, and the first trailer for the effort has dropped today.

Hugh Hefner has been many things during his life and career — champion of free speech and civil rights, night club entrepreneur and yes, peddler of naked ladies — so it was only a matter of time before his story made its way to the big screen. And time it's indeed taking. Universal first had "Hefner" under their roof years ago years ago, with an eye on folks Robert Downey Jr. and Hugh Jackman (or any other similarly handsome, charming man) for the lead role but it never came together and it was put into around. And that's where Warner Bros. snapped it up in 2012, and now heading into 2014 they've got a director.

The Heat, Bullock, McCarthy
Far be it from us to question Hollywood wisdom, as we can easily see why Fox executives want more from "The Heat." The summer comedy was a smash hit at home, taking in over $155 million on its way to $229 million worldwide. And while there was some talk of a sequel, Sandra Bullock has been wary. Earlier this year she said she "can't imagine" doing a followup, point to her history of less that satisfying sequels ("Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous" and "Speed 2: Cruise Control," need we say more) as the reason for her reticence. But we guess it always pays to have a Plan B, and Paul Feig has one.

Perhaps there was something in the water on the set of "Magic Mike." Earlier today we learned that Lee Daniels wants his 'The Butler' star Alex Pettyfer to lead a "Mr. & Mrs. Smith"-style action movie for him, with the twist being the central duo are an interracial gay couple. And now Pettyfer's stripper movie co-star also wants to get in on the same-sex fun.

The newest trend on TV—which, like most trends, isn’t exactly new—is taking big-screen properties to the small screen. Joining the forthcoming limited series takes on “Fargo” and “The Exorcist,” Deadline is reporting that the Bradley Cooper-starring vehicle “Limitless” will get a small-screen adaptation of its very own.

It seems Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy just can't get away from each other. Even since pairing up on the breakout, smash hit "Bridesmaids" they've continued to find ways to keep collaborating. Most recently, they teamed on the summer comedy hit "The Heat," and while a sequel is in the works, Sandra Bullock has already distanced herself from it Kristen Wiig-style, wary of trying to duplicate the magic. No matter, because Feig and McCarthy already got something else brewing.

The Heat
Well, apparently once was enough for Sandra Bullock: while talking with Entertainment Weekly about her upcoming sci-fi mind-bender "Gravity," the Oscar-winning actress said that it was unlikely she would return for a sequel to her summer sleeper hit "The Heat." “I know they say never say never, but right now, I can’t imagine it,” Bullock told EW. "I don’t want to ruin what Melissa and I had. If a miracle happens where [a script] shows up that really and truly outdid the first and provided an experience that was better than the first one, then I would look at it. But I’m not there.” But. Sandy. We love you.

If writer/director Paul Feig had only been responsible for creating the cult hit "Freaks & Geeks" that would probably be enough to endear him to cinephiles forever. Loosely based on his experiences growing up as an outcast in suburban Michigan (and shepherded to the small screen by pal Judd Apatow), Feig's magnum opus is still finding viewers over a decade after it was unceremoniously cancelled by the network. Though it only ran for 18 episodes, to this day the series frequently pops up on Best-Of lists and its cast of former unknowns -- James Franco, Linda Cardellini, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, Martin Starr, John Frances Daley, etc. -- are practically Hollywood fixtures. Hell, two-thirds of them just co-starred together in "This Is The End." After his show went off the air, Feig also mined his awkward experiences growing up for two hilarious non-fiction books ("Kick Me: Adventures In Adolescence" and "Superstud: How I Became A 24 Year Old Virgin") and has probably directed at least one episode of your favorite show ("The Office," "Nurse Jackie," "Bored To Death," "Weeds," "Mad Men," "30 Rock," "Parks And Rec," "Undeclared" and "Arrested Development").

The Heat
It isn’t maybe halfway through “The Heat” when you realize its purpose for existing isn’t for the freshest reasons. Paul Feig’s new cop comedy, a spiritual follow-up to his brassy “Bridesmaids,” seems heavily indebted to pretty much every cop comedy you’ve ever seen, Feig dutifully playing the hits for audiences who have come to understand and expect the regular rhythms of this subgenre, from its exasperated police chiefs to a casual disregard for due process and even the old chestnut of overwhelming tension between bureaus. The hook seems to be that “The Heat” comes from a female screenwriter, Kate Dippold, and stars Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. Fans of the Bechdel Test will be delighted that this film passes it early and frequently.
