Well, that was fast. Just this morning as it was announced that Paul Feig was returning to the small screen, backing "Ronna & Beverly" for Brit TV, it was said he was still eyeball his next feature project. Well, looks like it got packaged up faster than we thought.

It's called turning lemons into lemonade, and while "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig is still lining up his next feature outing, he's got a new comedy project that brings the "Freak & Geeks" co-creator and producer back to television.

"Freaks & Geeks" is one of the greatest television shows of all time. There we said it, and we'll also add, that it's lone single sense presents adolescence with more heart, humanity and humor than many shows try to achieve in multiple season runs. While it's always heartbreaking to get to the end of the final episode (during our annual marathon weekend watch the show) and realize there will be no more stories to come, there is some good news on the horizon.

While many continue to speculate whether or not this past summer’s breakout comedy “Bridesmaids” deserves a sequel, stars like Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy are lining up far more interesting projects than a rehash of that great comedy, and so is their director Paul Feig.

God, the "Bridesmaids" sequel conversation has to stop. It all started when Universal said they'd consider making a sequel with or without lead actress Kristen Wiig (who wrote the script with her pal Annie Mumolo). Of course they would: the hilarious and successful comedy became the highest-grossing R-rated female-led comedy of all time (domestically) last year (outgrossing "Sex and the City" by about $17 million in North America). They'd love a repeat of that financial success. But cast members quickly said the obvious aloud: a sequel without Wiig would be a terrible idea, and producer Judd Apatow pretty much said the same. But the wishful-thinking crowd got a little bit more excited for a sequel when co-star  Wendi McLendon-Covey gave them all a little hope and said Wiig could star in a sequel after all (so far, she's been fairly disinterested in returning to the territory and told THR she was writing something else).

Well, they may not get Melissa McCarthy or Kristen Wiig for their "Bridesmaids" sequel, but Universal is at least hanging on to director Paul Feig, and tasked him with another female centered comedy.

Paul Feig Has Better Things To Do Than Direct 'Bridget Jones 3'

When news arrived this summer that Paul Feig, riding very high off the smash success of "Bridesmaids" was looking to take on "Bridget Jones 3," it didn't quite make sense to us. Given that the helmer had a world of opportunity open up for him, it seemed strange he would take on the third instalment of a pretty tepid franchise as his followup. We figured that maybe he had a unique approach that would put his stamp on the material, but whatever he was planning, that's now all in the past as Deadline report Feig has bailed on the movie.

Also Writing Dark Comedy With 'The Help' Director Tate Taylor; Jon Hamm Says He Doubts Kristen Wiig Will Want To Do 'Bridesmaids 2'So just how scorching is the heat on Melissa McCarthy right now after her breakout turn earlier this year in "Bridesmaids"? Well, after taking the statue for Lead Actress In A Comedy Series for "Mike & Molly" (a show wholly undeserving of her talents) at the Emmy's talk pretty much immediately began for an Oscar run for the actress. And while we'll believe it when we see it, that's just an indication of how universally beloved in a span of about four or five months. And Hollywood isn't wasting any time in making sure she has gigs lined up for her next hiatus from the CBS sitcom. "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig and Judd Apatow are already developing a movie for her which may star Jon Hamm and she's got "ID Theft" lined up with Jason Bateman. And Judd Apatow also gave her a part in his forthcoming "This Is Forty." But believe it or not, that's not all.

Ah, the Griswolds. From the spate of '80s comedies, no family is more memorable than the clan headed up by Chevy Chase in four films that saw them heading to Europe, Vegas and spending the holidays together in their uniquely dysfunctional way. The franchise has been quiet ever since the 1997 entry "Vegas Vacation" but early in 2010 it kicked back to life. It was reported that Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley -- whose Black List script "Horrible Bosses" is now in theaters -- were tapped to write a reboot, produced by David Dobkin ("Wedding Crashers," "The Change-Up") that would focus on Rusty Griswold (played by Anthony Michael Hall, Johnny Galecki and Ethan Embry in the three different franchise films) with vibe said to be more in the vein of "Planes, Trains And Automobiles" than its predecessors. Well, development has been ongoing on the first name of a potential director has leaked out and...its pretty uninspired.
