Cameron Crowe is just getting warmed up for what will be a very busy fall and winter. He's got his next feature film "We Bought A Zoo" being prepped for a December 23rd bow, and early in the new year will see HBO release his Elton John documentary "The Union." But before that, he's got "Pearl Jam Twenty," a comprehensive look at the band in celebration of their twenty years of making music.

Greetings, earthlings. How is your September treating you? Pleased as punch that good movies are coming back? Well this week we have "Abduction" ahahaha, joke's on you! No but seriously, we have the smart baseball movie "Moneyball" that has made its way to the screen, by hook or by crook, despite the development hell it went through. And we also have the Statham-De Niro-Owen crotch-punching actioner "Killer Elite." It's a mixed bag this weekend at the 'plex!

Review: Cameron Crowe's 'Pearl Jam Twenty' Is A Rousing, Wonderfully Atypical Rock Doc

If it's not completely obvious, "Pearl Jam Twenty" is the name of the new retrospective documentary about the first twenty years of influential Seattle rock band Pearl Jam. But, as directed by Cameron Crowe, whose mind operates on another level of meta-textual cross-indexed pop cultural awareness, it's also a nod to the name of the first Pearl Jam album, Ten (the number of former New Jersey Nets point guard Mookie Blaylock, who the band was originally named after). In a weird way, the title is also evocative of the way the movie has been put together – unlike most standard rock band documentaries, its full of personal detail (Crowe was in Seattle at the time as a young music journalist) and wonderfully atypical shifts in tone and style. Those fearful of a feature-length "Behind the Music" can table those anxieties. This is the real deal with lots of surprising texture.

In celebration of the band's 20th anniversary (yes, it's been that long, you're old), Cameron Crowe's documentary, "Pearl Jam Twenty" is right around the corner. Making its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, of course it wouldn't be a Pearl Jam film without a soundtrack. Comprised of live cuts and demos, the two-disc soundtrack will arrive on September 20th, to coincide with the doc, and will include 29 unreleased tracks. Highlights include "Black" from their still unreleased 1992 MTV Unplugged appearance, a Mother Love Bone cover of "Crown Of Thorns" during their 10th Anniversary tribute to deceased singer Andrew Wood (Mother Love Bone was a precursor band to PJ), and a Temple Of The Dog cover (another early PJ offshoot with members of Soundgarden). The disc will also include a 36-page booklet with liner notes written by Cameron Crowe packaged in a hard-bound book. There's also a 384-page book that arrives on September 13th if you're keen on stocking up on your PJ wares.

After the flop that was 2005's "Elizabethtown," Cameron Crowe comes back with a vengeance in 2011. He's got three films in the can all coming out at various times this year, his Oscar hopeful, "We Bought A Zoo," his Elton John doc, "The Union,” which chronicles John and Leon Russell‘s collaborative album which premiered at Tribeca earlier this year and finally, his "Pearl Jam Twenty," documentary which was announced as part of the Toronto International Film Festival this morning.

If Cameron Crowe has been keeping a low profile in recent years, the director will be pretty much everywhere this year. He already premiered his Elton John documentary "The Union" at the recent Tribeca Film Festival, he's getting ready to release the Matt Damon-led dramedy "We Bought A Zoo" later this year, and in addition to that, he drops another music doc, "Pearl Jam Twenty" a look back at the history of the iconic grunge band.

Previously MIA Director Releasing Three Films This Year In Burst Of CreativityAfter a possibly unintentional six-year hiatus Cameron Crowe is coming back in a big way in 2011. After his 2005 dramedy "Elizabethtown," (which ironically was about a guy dealing with a colossal failure), Crowe's own career went quiet for a few years. He wrote a supernatural romantic comedy called "Deep Tiki" that was to star Ben Stiller and Reese Witherspoon but that project fell apart sometime in 2008. He also tried to get a Marvin Gaye biopic off the ground, but that proved difficult as well and he shelved it in the meantime.

Has it really been that long? 2011 will mark the 20th anniversary of grunge rockers Pearl Jam and they've got a whole lot planned. Today will see the release of "Live On Ten Legs," and as the title suggests, it's a live album culled from material spanning 2003 to 2010. In the spring, deluxe reissues of their albums "Vs." and "Vitalogy" will hit store shelves but for us, the most interesting piece of anniversary-related material is a documentary helmed by one of our favorite directors.
