Almost alone among the marketing materials for a film, the poster is sometimes able to rise above its role as, well, advertising, and become an art form in and of itself. Let's face it, if you're reading this, you've probably got some kind of movie poster decorating your bedroom or apartment. Indeed, without naming any names, some movie websites now seem to dedicate three-quarters of their postings to whatever minimalist re-envisioning of "Return of the Jedi" some graphic design major has cooked up that day.

We're just two months away now from "Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and can't say we're really all that excited. The fourth entry in the water-logged series will now find Captain Jack Sparrow chasing down the fountain of youth and getting into oh-so-many misadventures along the way.

Here's another quick round up of the latest posters from a handful of movies due out in the next couple of months. Summer movie season will be here before you know it and that means the pre-summer movies will start rolling out in April. (We can't believe it either.) That means lots and lots of poster debuts for the various franchises, sequels and spinoffs coming over the next 6 months.

Soundtrack Will Hit Stores On May 17thHans Zimmer has certainly never been any slouch, but lately, the composer seems to have been newly inspired in a way some of his other longstanding contemporaries haven't been. His work for Christopher Nolan on "The Dark Knight" and the Oscar-nominated "Inception" have been brilliantly left-of-field, while his score for "Sherlock Holmes" was inventive in ways we didn't imagine. And it looks like Zimmer is going to continue his unique approach heading into his next big gig.

Apparently Johnny Depp isn't the only one down for another swashbuckling go-around in the enchanted waters of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise. Deadline is reporting that screenwriter Terry Rossio, who has co-scripted all of the previous films (including this summer's "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides"), has officially signed on to pen the fifth installment. Deadline notes that this will be the first 'Pirates' adventure he's written without his longtime writing partner Ted Elliott, which indeed is intriguing.

In this week's massive 2011 preview in Entertainment Weekly, there's the thinly-veiled suggestion that Johnny Depp, at one point, considered departing the fourth film in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series. Apparently a herky-jerky shoot encumbered by bad weather colored his perceptions on being a complete and total whore for Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer. However, the actor-turned-corporate logo claims that the fifth film is still a possibility, even though it appears a lifetime contract signed with Disney was inked in blood. “As long as we can put all the puzzle pieces together, I would most definitely consider it,” said the former respectable thesp, making it seem like he actually wasn't a dancing monkey.

The Escapist & Potentially Entertaining Films Of 2011

Tentpoles That Hopefully Are Fun, Indies That May Or May Not Be Quality, Etc.You could see our annual three sets of anticipated film features like this: the Most Anticipated is an earnest example of the films we're truly looking forward to the most in that year, with a few caveats listed within if you read closely (i.e., we're looking forward to it, but the writing might be on the wall). Then our Escapist, Popcorn piece is more like: these are the fun, entertaining films of the year that may or may not be good. For us and our taste, it's always a bit of a toss up and history shows that we're generally on the money in terms of how we'll feel about the eventual product (not because we're biased, but because we know our own taste, blah, blah, blah). That said, we always try and remain as positive as possible. Frankly, if you're going to make super-hero films, sci-fi action films, fantasy/adventure films, etc. we want them to be good as touchstones such as "The Dark Knight," "The Lord Of The Rings," "Inception," etc., but obviously those films set the bar a little higher than what your average film from these genres generally aim for.
