While he may not be as beloved as that other Paul Anderson, shlock-auteur Paul W.S. Anderson has never been hurting for work. His latest effort, the period-disaster 3D film “Pompeii” has seen a flurry of casting additions and it now has a release date smack dab in the middle of the early-year dumping ground.

Well, it was hinted at a few weeks back, but it’s official now: Paul W.S. Anderson will be directing “Resident Evil 6.” In fact, when it comes to the next "Resident Evil" movie, everything appears to be business as usual. Anderson will be back, his wife Milla Jovovich will be back, it will be released in the month of September (September 12th, 2014, to be exact), just like every other "Resident Evil" movie except the first one

What a difference a “W.S.” makes. From the sublimely gifted to the ridiculously not-so, Andersons Paul Thomas and Paul W.S. share little beyond twinned SEO credentials (fortuitous for W.S., less so for Thomas) and the memory of being picked on at the top of the school register. Having last delivered us the aptly masterful “The Master,” and “Resident Evil: Retribution” (retribution, presumably, for its unwitting audience) respectively, news of a forthcoming Anderson picture could spell delight or “dear God, no” for film fans. Regrettably, this story concerns the latter, lesser, Anderson.

From the lands of Westeros to 79 A.D. Italy? We don't think that transition will be too difficult for "Game Of Thrones" star Kit Harington. The actor is slowly but surely beginning to make inroads on the big screen, starring in "Silent Hill: Revelation 3D" (you gotta start somewhere), and he has a role in the upcoming "The Seventh Son" where he'll co-star alongside Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore. He was attached to "Arthur & Lancelot" before it fell apart, but he's dusted himself off with what is going to be his biggest effort yet.

Which Is Ironic, Because We'd Rather Fling Ourselves Into A Volcano Than Watch One Of His FilmsIs there a worse mainstream director working today than Paul W.S. Anderson? It's hard to say. Certainly if you can call the "Vampires Suck" duo of Jason Freidberg and Aaron Seltzer directors, they would probably pip him. But there's something about Anderson's work that seems to sink him below most of his action-heavy compatriots, the likes of McG and Brett Ratner -- whether it's the consistently shitty effects work, the continual aping of "The Matrix" or the way his films always look so... cheap, Anderson's pretty close to the bottom of the barrel. Put it this way, if the best film we'd made in a decade was "Death Race," we'd start to think about retraining as something else. Like a plumber.

Legendary Writer Robert Towne To Pen Mini-Series 'Pompeii'

The 2007 writers' strike wound up either rushing a lot of films into production or killing them off completely: one of the many projects to bite the dust was an adaption of Robert Harris' "Pompeii." Set to be directed by Roman Polanski, with Scarlett Johansson and Orlando Bloom in the leads, problems with the film's spiralling budget were only compounded by the impending work stoppage and the feature film was canceled. Polanski went on to film another Harris novel, "The Ghost Writer," instead. Last spring however, "Pompeii" kicked back to life with Ridley Scott snatching up the rights and looking to take it the television mini-series route and now he's handed it to one of the most famed screenwriters of all time.

@ThePlaylist From the script it looked like a straight-ahead evil mama story. You're saying there is more?
