Ridley Scott To Direct ‘The Martian’ With Matt Damon In The Lead
When Ridley Scott’s “The Martian” was announced with Matt Damon in the lead a few months ago, it sounded like it had a lot of heat and would be next for the prodigious and eclectic filmmaker. And according to writer Simon Kinberg, it is, and it’s shooting this fall.

Ridley Scott To Direct ‘The Martian’ With Matt Damon In The Lead
Looks like those early reports panned out. In April of this year, Drew Goddard vacated the director’s chair of 20th Century Fox's "The Martian,” but reports surfaced that the studio wanted Matt Damon to play the lead. Well, that turns out to be correct. Damon will star in “The Martian” for Fox and Goddard's replacement will be none other than Ridley Scott.

Prometheus
Well, that didn’t last too long. 20th Century Fox announced a rash of future dates last year going as far as 2018. The big eye-grabber was a trio of super hero films, “The Wolverine 2,” a sequel to “The Fantastic Four” that hasn’t even begun shooting yet and an Untitled Marvel Mystery movie for summer 2018, which has still not been revealed.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Wolverine
You better grab a drink and take a seat — Fox just set a batch of dates for the 2017/18 calendar, and they've got a very tentpole heavy future laid out. And while this is the part where we lament the state of the industry, frankly, it is what it is so let's just break down what they've got coming.

Ridley Scott wasn't just toying around with the genre after returning to sci-fi with last year's "Prometheus"; he's jumped into those waters with both feet. While reception to the movie was decidedly mixed, it didn't take long for sequel talk to start and earlier this year, Noomi Rapace had even told us she met with Scott about the movie, noting that the script was being worked on. Fast forward a few months and it was revealed that "Transcendence" writer Jack Paglen had been hired to write the movie, while a comic is also being developed to continue the story. But when will see it on the big screen? Ridley Scott won't pin down a date but it seems things are moving along swiftly.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that "Prometheus 2" started to become more of a reality, as "Transcendence" writer Jack Paglen got hired to pen the script. And, while it's a long way off on Ridley Scott's calendar (he's doing that Moses movie next for a 2014 release), those of you anxious or perhaps just curious where the story might go next (and what else there is to explore in that world) might want to find out where your local comic shop is.

Welcome to Hollywood, Jack Paglen. The writer has seen a quick ascension up the Hollywood food chain, thanks to his 2012 Black List placing script for "Transcendence," which is now being made into a Wally Pfister-directed, Christopher Nolan-produced, Johnny Depp-starring movie. Not bad. And for his next trick? He's jumping on board what could be the most difficult sequel in development.
