BRAAAM! 10 Trailers That Steal The Inception sound
"What's the most resilient parasite? An idea." Little did Christopher Nolan know when he wrote that line, he’d need to add an addendum: an idea that keeps getting pickpocketed over and over again until it loses meaning and ownership, and becomes simply background noise to the general cultural conversation. It's appropriate, when you think about it, and something that Cobb (and team Nolan) would likely appreciate, that the memory of this ubiquitous sound's origins are slowly fading away. The Hans Zimmer-composed ominous pitched-down “Inception” horn blast, known as “The 'Inception' BRAAAM" (number of 'r's and 'a's may vary) has been resilient indeed, an idea homaged, appropriated and straight-up nicked time and time again since its... wait for it... inception.

Do You Have An Idea For 'Prometheus 2'? A "Freaking Out" Fox Probably Wants To Hear It

If there is one (potenital) franchise that continues to be a muddle of confused ideas, it's "Prometheus." We'll spare you the blow-by-blow (again), but generally speaking, Jon Spaihts wrote a script that was a (more) direct prequel to "Alien" (including facehuggers) like had been initially planned, and then Damon Lindelof was brought it and it became the movie you saw last summer (you can read about some of the differences here). But for all the supposed mystery of "Prometheus," Ridley Scott wasted no opportunity to explain away everything and even toss in a loose tie to "Blade Runner" because why the fuck not. So needless to say, the waters have become a bit muddied, and Fox is reportedly none too pleased.

One of the most bickered about movies of last year was Ridley Scott's "Alien" pseudo-prequel "Prometheus," a gaudy, lumbering hulk of a movie with more moving parts than your father's Chevy, it was a film that posed just as many questions as it answered and whose elliptical nature allured as many moviegoers as it repelled. Well, it was still something of a hit, and it appears work is moving ahead on a sequel, at least according to "Prometheus" leading lady Noomi Rapace.

Keeping in line with the newly developing trend of Hollywood types calling out movies, the always talkative Quentin Tarantino has now weighed in on last summer's divisive sci-fi spectacle "Prometheus," and well, let's start with the good stuff.

Christmas is coming early for some geeks. The always polarizing Damon Lindelof has been the object of much of the criticism regarding the myriad problems with Ridley Scott's "Prometheus." The writer, for better or worse, took the original draft by Jon Spaihts and made significant changes, and was the one who largely convinced Scott that the film shouldn't be a direct prequel to "Alien" but...something else. The screenwriter has become a soft target for those knocking the movie, but you won't have him to kick the next time around.

There are two types of “Prometheus” fans: those who are huge fans of the “Alien” franchise and thus have poured over every ounce of the amazing bounty of extras in the “Prometheus” Blu-Ray, and those who are more casual, who want to know a bit more, are perhaps a bit puzzled and intrigued by the Damon Lindelof-penned, Ridley Scott-directed sorta-prequel to the 1979 film. We’ll assume you’re in the latter camp.

"Prometheus" is now on home video, and the conversation continues as fans debate what it's all about, whether or not the not-quite-prequel worked, and even if it ties into the "Blade Runner" universe. But no matter where most folks stand on the movie, it can be agreed that, visually, the film is a wonder. Shot digitally and presented in 3D, it's one of the few films this year that was actually immersive in the format (at least in this writer's opinion), with some special effects that were truly impressive at times. But when it came to the exteriors, Ridley Scott and co. had some help.

Ridley Scott is frustrating more than a few times over. The filmmaker, while well-respected and considered one of the greatest living directors in some corners of the world, he arguably has an impressive but uneven career (see our retrospective for that argument), and only a few unimpeachable touchstones to his name. "Alien" and "Blade Runner" are obviously two of them and having already fumbled pretty hard with his not-a-prequel "Alien" prequel "Prometheus," Scott is attempting to pull off a sequel to "Blade Runner."

With "Prometheus" hitting home video this week, the discussion continues to revolve around just what it was supposed to be. A prequel to "Alien"? A prequel to the "Prometheus" sequel? Some kind of tie-in to the eventual "Blade Runner" follow up? Well, let the conversation continue as original screenwriter Jon Spaihts reveals that his initial script tied more directly to the franchise starting movie. And moreover, they were the centerpiece of two key sequences.

Is Ridley Scott becoming the new George Lucas in tearing down his legacy? No matter what you thought about "Prometheus" it has become clear that the movie isn't exactly a prequel to "Alien" so much as a prequel to the eventual sequel that will be the prequel to "Alien." Or something. But has Ridley Scott now decided to drag "Blade Runner" into his world building?
