Since its premiere earlier this summer, Ridley Scott’s polarizing “Prometheus” has provided the sort of much-needed discussion that is sorely missed during the blockbuster season, and despite a lot of the vitriol launched against the film, its impending home video release is garnering a lot of excitement. Much of that excitement is due to Scott’s precedence of providing a different experience on home video than the theatrical versions (see: the Director’s Cut of “Kingdom Of Heaven”). Although there won’t be a director’s cut of “Prometheus,” the Blu-ray release will feature some deleted and extended scenes, two of which you can see one below.

Whether you hated or loved it, you've got to agree that Ridley Scott's "Prometheus," at the very least, gave us all something to talk about for a really, really long time. And just when you thought the discussion was over, here comes a new clip ahead of the movie's home-video release in early October. The exclusive clip from Hey U Guys features Captain Janek (Idris Elba) getting prepared for his voyage aboard Prometheus. It is, like all things "Prometheus"-related, terribly mysterious.

The “Prometheus” Blu-ray is on its way and, despite many people being left hugely disappointed by Ridley Scott’s latest, there still seems to be a fair bit of excitement surrounding the home release. Maybe it’s because of what Ridley Scott has been able to transform his films into in the past when given a second crack at the whip, or maybe it’s in the wild hope that there may be enough amongst the special features to make sense of the original film. Perhaps it’s just to see some more of the stunning visuals, who knows?

With "The Bourne Legacy" and "The Expendables 2" landing over the last couple of weekends, we're pretty much at the tail end of the tentpole-laden summer movie season. The rest of the month finds classic late-August programmers like "Premium Rush," "The Apparition" and "The Possession" hitting theaters before attention will be turned to the fall festival season with Venice, Telluride, TIFF, and NYFF all on the way.

There’s no hiding the fact that Ridley Scott’s summer sci-fi adventure “Prometheus” was divisive amongst moviegoers and critics alike, and we certainly had some heated discussions of our own here at The Playlist. But now that the dust has settled – and we’re a little over two months away from the film’s theatrical release – it would seem like it’s time to put away all “Prometheus” verbal sparring for now...at least until the DVD/Blu-ray comes out.

Franchises. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em. And if you're Hollywood, you just can't live without them, period. The Hollywood Reporter has done a quick rundown of would-be series likely to spawn sequels in their latest issue, and if you've been following the box-office numbers, none of the choices should be much of a surprise.

Earlier this year, Guillermo Del Toro hit his official fansite to bring sad tiding to fans about his long developing passion project, "At The Mountains Of Madness." With "Prometheus" seemingly touching on some of the same creation mythology that H.P. Lovecraft outlined in his celebrated and hugely influential novella, Del Toro believed his film was doomed: "I assumed the greek metaphor [of the title] alluded at the creation aspects of the HPL book. I believe I am right and if so, as a fan, I am delighted to see a new RS science fiction film, but this will probably mark a long pause -if not the demise- of ATMOM." But never say never?

Tyler Perry and lots of other people didn't like "Prometheus." Some other people did. And between the two there have been a lot of conversation about Ridley Scott's return to sci-fi and quasi "Alien" prequel about what it all means and where it could possible go from here. At any rate, when it arrives on Blu-ray, as expected, there will be plenty more to explore.
