It’s no surprise to anyone who reads daily film sites that bloggers have the tendency to spoil entire scenes, plots, or even whole movies prior to their release. One of the most memorable leaks was for the ending of director McG’s vapid “Terminator: Salvation,” in which the film’s entire ending was leaked by film bloggers a year before it was set to be released. Warner Bros. and McG insisted that bloggers were way off, but he eventually admitted that everyone had been spot on all along.

Regardless of whether that plot synopsis from last night is legit or not (and Fox have denied it), we're more excited for "Prometheus," the sci-fi tale that seems to be set in the same universe as the "Alien" films, and that marks director Ridley Scott's first science fiction movie since "Blade Runner," than we thought we'd be, considering it started off as that most redundant of movie phenomenons, a prequel. Scott and writer Damon Lindelof have been talking a good talk about the originality of the film, and they've assembled quite the cast, with Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Guy Pearce and Logan Marshall-Green. And now it's being alleged that another top actor has joined the cast.

Writer Damon Lindelof Explains Why Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' Isn't & Is An 'Alien' PrequelIn case you've been living under a rock, you're aware that director Ridley Scott is returning to the world of sci-fi after a nearly 30-year absence. Yes, it's been that long since "Blade Runner" in 1982 ("Legend" is fantasy, leave it at that). He making "Prometheus," a project that started out as a "Alien" prequel written by Jon Spaihts and then morphed into something new when "Lost" writer Damon Lindelof pitched a new direction which Scott loved. 20th Century Fox and Scott, pivoted and "Prometheus" was born -- though considering how fast they changed everything, found a cast, a green light and a release date, one has to wonder if the changes weren't that radical.

Movie websites become desperate for page views. As a result, rumors take flight and somehow get upgraded briefly to "truth" before the filmmakers can sort out the misinformation. Lately, however, a spate of big releases have been playing a lengthy game of chicken with film websites, the suggestion being that false information was being leaked in order to throw publicity hounds off these movies' tracks.
