While speculation runs irritatingly rampant about "Prometheus" and what exactly from "Alien" will appear in this not-a-prequel to the film, Michael Fassbender has finally confirmed a long swirling rumor about who he will play in the film that is keeping plot and character details very, very close close to the chest.

A project that we were actively dreading only a few months ago, we are now looking forward to Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" more than any film from the director in years. The helmer's always worked best in the sci-fi field ("Alien," "Blade Runner") and the idea that he's working on a project that's evolved from a full-blown prequel to the "Alien" series to (for the most part -- and we'll get to that in a moment) something very different, and more original, is a fascinating one. While the script has since received a major overhaul from "Lost" and "Star Trek" writer Damon Lindelof, if even a small fraction of the bold ideas featured in the Jon Spaihts draft we read make it to the screen, it's going to be very different from every other sci-fi tentpole out there.

Casey Affleck Looks To Be Out Of The Picture, But Young Unknown Is On The Verge; Ben Mendelsoh Also Joins CastUpdate: And speaking of inexpensive, on-the-rise talent, Variety reports that "Animal Kingdom" thesp Ben Mendelsohn (who played the nervy Pope in the acclaimed Aussie flick) has also joined "Cogan's Trade." He and McNairy will play junkies who hold up the high stakes poker game, with Pitt tasked to find them.

Michael Fassbender Says There's A "Connecting Vein" Between 'Alien' & 'Prometheus'After a few weeks of will she or won't she back and forth and negotiations, Charlize Theron has signed on to star in Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" alongside Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace.

Did Ridley Scott mislead the internet? Are fanboys making much ado about nothing? Are new reports and rumors of the film's plot even true? When Ridley Scott announced "Prometheus," his new film born out of the ashes of an "Alien" prequel, various outlets took his still somewhat vague and enigmatic comments as some sort of concrete statement.

Breaking. Michael Fassbender has joined Noomi Rapace as the second official star of Ridley Scott's "Prometheus." Fassbender's devastating turn in the 2008 drama "Hunger" still keeps paying dividends for the 34-year-old of German/Irish descent. After smaller 2009 turns in "Inglourious Basterds," and "Jonah Hex," plus the lead in "Centurion," Fassbender's career has finally hit top speed in the last six months landing the lead in "X-Men: First Class," a coveted part in Steven Soderbergh's "Haywire," and now a major spot in Ridley Scott's sci-film that was once set to be a prequel to his 1979 classic "Alien," but now seems to have morphed into something entirely different though seemingly still within that universe (it is said to have "Alien DNA" within it, but loglines are being kept under wraps).

Just last week, Disney moved their ambitious live-action sci-fi film “John Carter of Mars” from a previously scheduled summer 2012 date to March 8, 2012 pitting it opposite Ridley Scott's gestating "Prometheus." With both films being big, expensive sci-fi projects we figured it was only a matter of time before "Prometheus" shifted and now it has.

Angelina Jolie & Charlize Theron Circling Supporting Roles, Picture Morphs From Prequel To Something "More Original"How's this for a MLK holiday weekend bit of news? Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel is now titled "Prometheus." Noomi Rapace is starring. It's comes out March 9, 2012. Whoa. More than that, it's not even a prequel anymore and apparently it's transformed into something "more original."
