Oh right. "Red 2." Sorry, entirely forgot about you there buddy. So is "Red" a franchise ready to play with big boys of summer? Summit seems to think so and even though there really wasn't much need for a sequel, "Red 2" is happening, and it's real and here is a new trailer to remind you of that.

Okay, we get why there's a sequel to "Red" -- it made just under $200 million worldwide. But seriously, do you remember anything about that movie? Have you been itching for a sequel? In what might be the most unnecessary sequel of 2013 (and yes, that includes "300: Rise Of An Empire"), "Red 2" is coming.

Over the last few days, we've been pin-pointing 100 of the films we're most looking forward to over the next twelve months. Of course, they won't all be great -- and some will be terrible -- but they all give some reason for hope, to one degree or another.

As in demand as he is right now, something that Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty" is only going to cement, Joel Edgerton seems intent on marching to the beat of his own drum. So for his next film, rather than taking the Hollywood dime, he's working on thriller "Felony," based on his own script, and according to a press release, he's just got a great co-star, in the shape of Oscar-nominee Tom Wilkinson. In the Matthew Saville-directed project, Edgerton who plays a cop who accidentally hits a child in his car, only to lie about the accident, while Wilkinson plays the lead investigator of the incident. Sounds promising, although we're curious to see whether this turns out to be set in Australia, or in the U.S.

There was time when the idea of writing up a story about Anthony Hopkins being caught between two sequels would've seemed laughable. But welcome to 2012, where if you want keep the lights on and maintain some profile in Hollywood, you whore your soul to Marvel or sign up for a big franchise.

2010's "Red" was, on paper, one of the least likely sleeper hits of the last few years: an actioner where the average age of the cast was over 60 (and that was even allowing for relative younglings Karl Urban and Mary-Louise Parker). And yet the film, based on Warren Ellis' comic book, directed by Robert Schwentke and starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren, took a very solid $200 million worldwide on a budget that didn't break the bank, and Summit have been moving ahead with a sequel ever since.

'Galaxy Quest' Helmer Dean Parisot To Direct Sequel To Bruce Willis/Helen Mirren Actioner 'Red'

Considering he made one of the best comedies of the last twenty years, you'd have thought Dean Parisot would be a bigger name by now. After making his debut with the Drew Barrymore vehicle "Home Fries," the helmer was gifted a near-perfect script in the sci-fi comedy "Galaxy Quest," about the crew of a "Star Trek"-style TV series who find themselves thrust into a real-life space adventure, and went on to cast it impeccably, with Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman and Sam Rockwell, and directing it with visual panache and a real flair for comedy.

Even though they've had a quiet year, with "Source Code" and "50/50" being their biggest hits, Summit is merely laying low, with two larger efforts slotted for Christmas time releases: "The Darkest Hour," and some obscure vampire film about marriages and babies. It makes sense that the next step is for the studio to go from mini-major to major, and they're doing that in a big way today, announcing release dates for a few pretty large upcoming films.

Well, the long search is over for a director to take on "Die Hard 5" and the result is pretty anti-climatic. While Noam Murro was initially going to direct, he bailed to go do “300: Battle of Artemisia” instead. And while a shortlist developed of interesting but unlikely names like Joe Cornish, Justin Lin and Nicolas Winding Refn, Bruce Willis has settled on "Max Payne" director John Moore to guide the fifth installment of the tired franchise.
