Wondering what to watch this Labor Day weekend? You might want to fire up your Amazon account and check out the five new pilots the online behemoth is rolling out. Unlike their competitors at other streaming services, the company is taking a unique approach to programming. Today they're launching the new shows, but the catch is that user comments and ratings will determine which ones get ordered to series...and which don't. Among the competing shows is "Red Oaks," from director David Gordon Green.

A terrific cast is forming around U.K. filmmaker Ben Wheatley's net film, “High-Rise." The movie already stars Tom Hiddleston, Sienna Miller, Jeremy Irons and James Purefoy (HBO’s “Rome”). That’s good enough as it is, but announced last night, joining the cast are “Mad Men” and “Top Of The Lake” star Elisabeth Moss and Luke Evans of “The Hobbit” and the upcoming “Dracula Untold.”

Steven Soderbergh has always been one of director David Gordon Green’s models for an ideal career path, and it’s a perplexing thought that the two filmmakers previously haven’t secured a reason to collaborate. They came close—Green’s adaptation of “A Confederacy of Dunces" promised Soderbergh as producer, before the film collapsed under studio politics—but now a prime opportunity has finally arrived, thanks to the heads over at Amazon Studios.
