In a preemptive bid sure to send any number of struggling novelists scrambling back to their word processors, Deadline notes that Universal has acquired an unpublished manuscript by Andrew Pyper called "Demonologist," which is set to be produced by ImageMovers partners Robert Zemeckis, Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey.

Broadway shows are hugely expensive propositions, and more and more producers are hedging their bets with high profile stage adaptations of beloved films. In the next couple of months alone we're getting Broadway musical versions of "Newsies" and "Ghost," and in the past few years we've seen everything from "Catch Me If You Can" to "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" make it to the great white way. They're even launching an off-Broadway revival of the infamously doomed "Carrie" musical. Now comes word from Deadline that none other than "Back to the Future" might be coming back... but this time, to Broadway. That's right -- Marty, Doc Brown, and all your favorites will be back! And singing!

Last night brought excellent news for television fans, with the return of the Elmore Leonard-inspired series "Justified." Now in its third season, the show, which stars Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins, has gone from strength to strength, so much so that we named it our fourth favorite series of the last TV season. Graham Yost is the man behind it, but he's also a veteran screenwriter, with credits like "Speed" and "Broken Arrow" to his name, and he's working on making a return to the big screen for a fairly major project.

Robert Zemeckis hasn't had a particularly good year. The veteran director of "Back to the Future" and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" finally hit a performance capture wall when "Mars Needs Moms," the animated Disney feature from his Imagemovers company, became one of the biggest money-losers of the year, taking under $40 million worldwide on a $150 million budget. It caused the end of the deal between the Mouse House and Imagemovers, and the (blessed) cancellation of his planned remake of Beatles pic "Yellow Submarine."

Brian Geraghty Will Co-Pilot With Denzel Washington In Robert Zemeckis' 'Flight'

It might have taken a little time (18 months passed between the film's premiere in Venice and its Oscar victory), but basically everyone came out of "The Hurt Locker" with a ton of heat behind them. Directing and writing pair Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal attracted the attention of most of the A-list for their thriller "Triple Frontier," before switching streams to head to the unexpectedly timely "Kill Bin Laden," which is gearing up to go next. Jeremy Renner has become the most sought-after leading man in town, with lead roles in "The Avengers," "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol," "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" and "The Bourne Legacy," while Anthony Mackie has done equally well, cropping up in everything from the imminent "Real Steel" to the upcoming "Gangster Squad."

Steven Soderbergh says something on the "Out of Sight" DVD commentary that few would disagree with: "If you can put Don Cheadle in your movie, you should put Don Cheadle in your movie." He's been true to his word, going on to cast the great actor in "Traffic" and three "Ocean's Eleven" movies, and Cheadle's livened up plenty of other projects as well, from his Oscar-nominated turn in "Hotel Rwanda" to, most recently, playing straight man to Brendan Gleeson in "The Guard." Hell, he was even brilliant as Captain Planet. Now, Robert Zemeckis has taken the tip, as Cheadle, along with another stalwart character actor, seems to have come on board the latest from the "Back to the Future" director.

After months of rumors, it's official: Robert Zemeckis will be directing Denzel Washington in the Paramount production "Flight." The film tells the story of a commercial airline pilot who saves his passengers after a flight goes awry. However, he begins to buckle under the pressure when several investigators question his role in the disaster. Did somebody fly with the emergency break on again??

Robert Zemeckis In Talks To Direct 'Here There Be Monsters' With Script By Brian Helgeland

Ah Hollywood -- a magical place where a project can change hands a half dozen times before being locked down. In this case, Warner Bros. "Here There Be Monsters" is the culprit, and the studio is now in talks with Robert Zemeckis to direct, The Wrap reports. Paul Greengrass most recently took an interest in the project, but he appears to have moved on (hopefully to better things?). Brian Helgeland, whose two most recently produced credits were the underperforming "Green Zone" and the coldly received "Robin Hood", is set to write the film, which would follow a disgraced British Naval officer who is hired by a rich shipping magnate to investigate the disappearance of his merchant ships in the North Atlantic, only to discover a giant sea serpent is the culprit. We've got faith in Helgeland though, especially since the former Oscar winner ("L.A. Confidental") has turned in a "Cleopatra" script for Steven Soderbergh a while back, and more recently, found a home for his Robinson biopic with Legendary Pictures.
