Well, this is getting interesting. We haven't exactly been overjoyed about the "RoboCop" remake (we're not really against it either) but the talent being put together for the film by MGM is getting pretty impressive. Rising star Joel Kinnaman ("The Killing," "Lola Versus") has landed the lead, with Gary Oldman of all people in a supporting role as well as James Vanderbilt of "Zodiac" and "The Amazing Spider-Man" fame doing a rewrite on the script. Not bad. And now, another distinctive actor is coming on board.

In case you were wondering how Gary Oldman's career would shift and change after he finally won his first Oscar nomination, for "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," the answer is: it wouldn't, really. We hope he's getting paid more, certainly. And there's talk of a return appearance from George Smiley, while the actor is starting to think about stepping behind the camera again, for the first time since 1997's "Nil By Mouth." But as for his acting roles, it seems to be the same kind of mix of villain roles (see "Leon," "The Fifth Element") and mentor roles ("The Dark Knight," "Harry Potter") that have constituted the bulk of his studio work.

'Zodiac' & 'Amazing Spider-Man' Scribe James Vanderbilt To Rewrite 'Robocop'; Sells Action Spec 'White House Down' To Sony

The first films of screenwriter James Vanderbilt's career were not exactly indicators of great work to come. Killer tooth fairy horror "Darkness Calls?" Botched "Rashomon" riff "Basic"? Dwayne Johnson actioner "The Rundown"? (Which is actually good fun, but not exactly high art). Certainly none suggested that one of the great screenplays of the century so far would come from Vanderbilt, but that's exactly what his script for David Fincher's "Zodiac" is, and it's helped to make him one of the most in-demand writers around.

After years in development, the "RoboCop" franchise is finally booted back up and ready to return. With "Elite Squad" Jose Padilha at the helm and "The Killing" star Joel Kinnaman newly minted as the man in the robot suit, MGM is ready to get this thing rolling, and has pegged a release date for the movie.

Joining the ranks of Peter Weller, Robert John Burke ("RoboCop 3"), Richard Eden (the shortlived Canadian TV series), David Sobolov (the animated series "RoboCop: Alpha Commando") and Page Fletcher (the mini-series "RoboCop: Prime Directives"), Joel Kinnaman is now the latest actor to put on the metal helmet as Deadline confirms he will be the next RoboCop in the upcoming reboot.

So much for those rumors of Michael Fassbender or Russell Crowe (the latter of which was recently debunked anyhow). It looks like neither of those two stars will be leading the new “RoboCop” remake that Brazilian helmer José Padilha (“Elite Squad”) will be directing.

Just last week, it was revealed that veterans Russell Crowe and Liam Neeson were in fact circling Darren Aronofsky's bibical epic "Noah" as the titular character and a villain, respectively. This was exciting enough, however, Variety writer Jeff Sneider soon tweeted that this wasn't the only big role Crowe was up for and that he may be starring in Jose Padilha's upcoming "RoboCop" reboot. Now, it looks like Crowe himself has taken to Twitter to respond to the news, single-handedly confirming his potential involvement with "Noah" and, at the same time, denying anything to do with "RoboCop."

Oh, the trades. In their eternal pissing match to shout "first!" or "toldja!" some irritating practices have come into play of late which finds them making sure they toss every little morsel of info they have out there -- even it means burying it in other stories -- or hitting Twitter with their "news," all so they can trumpet that they were there before everyone else. At any rate, it seems Jeff Sneider at Variety was feeling a little burned that Deadline got the news that Liam Neeson and Russell Crowe were being eyed for Darren Aronofsky's "Noah" so late last night he tweeted that the latter was also in the mix for a big franchise reboot.

"Get off my lawn!" That was probably one of the most memorable movie lines of 2008 (aside from "Let me put a smile on that face" from "The Dark Knight") and MGM are hoping "Gran Torino" scribe Nick Schenk can bring some of that badass grit to their forever developing "RoboCop" reboot.
