After years in development, the "RoboCop" franchise is finally booted back up and ready to return. With "Elite Squad" Jose Padilha at the helm and "The Killing" star Joel Kinnaman newly minted as the man in the robot suit, MGM is ready to get this thing rolling, and has pegged a release date for the movie.

Joining the ranks of Peter Weller, Robert John Burke ("RoboCop 3"), Richard Eden (the shortlived Canadian TV series), David Sobolov (the animated series "RoboCop: Alpha Commando") and Page Fletcher (the mini-series "RoboCop: Prime Directives"), Joel Kinnaman is now the latest actor to put on the metal helmet as Deadline confirms he will be the next RoboCop in the upcoming reboot.

So much for those rumors of Michael Fassbender or Russell Crowe (the latter of which was recently debunked anyhow). It looks like neither of those two stars will be leading the new “RoboCop” remake that Brazilian helmer José Padilha (“Elite Squad”) will be directing.

Just last week, it was revealed that veterans Russell Crowe and Liam Neeson were in fact circling Darren Aronofsky's bibical epic "Noah" as the titular character and a villain, respectively. This was exciting enough, however, Variety writer Jeff Sneider soon tweeted that this wasn't the only big role Crowe was up for and that he may be starring in Jose Padilha's upcoming "RoboCop" reboot. Now, it looks like Crowe himself has taken to Twitter to respond to the news, single-handedly confirming his potential involvement with "Noah" and, at the same time, denying anything to do with "RoboCop."

Oh, the trades. In their eternal pissing match to shout "first!" or "toldja!" some irritating practices have come into play of late which finds them making sure they toss every little morsel of info they have out there -- even it means burying it in other stories -- or hitting Twitter with their "news," all so they can trumpet that they were there before everyone else. At any rate, it seems Jeff Sneider at Variety was feeling a little burned that Deadline got the news that Liam Neeson and Russell Crowe were being eyed for Darren Aronofsky's "Noah" so late last night he tweeted that the latter was also in the mix for a big franchise reboot.

"Get off my lawn!" That was probably one of the most memorable movie lines of 2008 (aside from "Let me put a smile on that face" from "The Dark Knight") and MGM are hoping "Gran Torino" scribe Nick Schenk can bring some of that badass grit to their forever developing "RoboCop" reboot.

Director Says No One's Been Cast In Remake, Was Just Listing Off Actors He LikesJosé Padilha may be in the midst of conducting interviews for his current film, “Elite Squad 2: The Enemy Within,” but he has a clear eye on what he’s doing next: a remake of Paul Verhoeven’s “RoboCop.” Speaking to The Playlist in Austin, Texas, where the filmmaker is hosting screenings of “Elite Squad 2” at Fantastic Fest, Padilha offered some insights how his “Robocop” will be similar – and different – than Verhoeven’s original.

So is this where we're headed? It wasn't that long ago that the blogosphere collectively tired of constant wish list reports that usually amounted to nothing, but the usually excellent Twitch seem to have rebooted the trend hard today. Earlier they reported Josh Brolin was topping the list for "Oldboy" but we have to remind everyone that wishes are just that and they don't often turn into reality. And while you may have a good source perhaps privy to these kinds of conversations, milking them hard and fast early prevents developing more concrete info or simply creates news out of something that was never news to begin with. It's a chicken/egg which-came-first rumor scenario that often winds up with no egg or chicken at all. Considering it was only this morning that Twitch was bemoaning more "unsubstantiated" "Evil Dead" stories, it seems odd they would follow this afternoon with all the speculation.

Writer Penned A Version Of 'Bourne 4' & 'Dune'One of the hottest new writers in Hollywood doesn't have one IMDB credit to his name. That's because nothing screenwriter Joshua Zetumer has written has been produced into a film, yet, but that doesn't mean that a) it won't eventually and b) he's not talented.
