“Mood Indigo,” the latest from the Michel Gondry dream factory, is something of a cinephile's movie. The playful whimsy merchant might be closing a book or opening a new one, since the picture almost feels transitional. All the Gondry staples are there – the dreams that fold into reality, the un-acknowledged fantasy, the entirely-too-pleased-with-itself practical effects. But this feels different. Some will find this romantic fantasy the ur-Michel Gondry text, indulging in all his worst tendencies. But if anything, this is like the head-in-the-clouds fantasist finally closing his beloved sketchbook and facing the rest of the world.

Chinese Puzzle
Cédric Klapisch’s “L’Auberge Espagnole” and “Russian Dolls” weren’t really begging for a third and final entry in the global adventures of Xavier (Romain Duris), but it doesn’t make “Chinese Puzzle” any less enjoyable. What’s impressive is that despite the sometimes heavy subject matter—divorce, creative crisis and trying to find an affordable 2BR in New York City—Klapisch’s film is light and fizzy, set to a soundtrack of funk and salsa. We’ll claim that we laughed throughout the film, but we were probably heard full-on giggling with delight.

Film Is An Adaptation Of 'L'Ecume des jours'; Filming Starts In March 2012While he may not yet be known on this side of the ocean, French actor Romain Duris has been earning praise and breaking hearts in his native France. You might best know the three-time César award nominee from Jacques Audiard's "The Beat That My Heart Skipped" or last year's arthouse comedy hit "Heartbreaker," but the actor is set to reteam with a very familiar face for a film that could serve as his biggest exposure to a worldwide audience yet.
