Amidst six-second snippets of blurry concert footage and showcases of your latest meal, the mobile app Vine has infected the film industry with a vengeance. The results have been severely mixed: Oscilloscope "released" their David Cross comedy "It's A Disaster" on Vine last month as part of a promo stunt, Film District has been hankering for audiences' quick (positive) opinion on “Olympus Has Fallen,” and "The Wolverine" teased its first trailer via the new social media toy. Luckily, cousins Jason Schwartzman and Roman Coppola have managed to make something a bit more clever.

Sometimes name-brand directors are hired for ads and you wonder why the money was spent at all (Guy Ritchie's recent spot for H&M comes to mind), but then there are the occasions where the synergy makes sense. And certainly, Prada knew exactly what they were doing when they snapped up Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola for their most recent campaign. And following a teaser last week, we now get a much bigger bite of the short they've put together.

The first question that comes to mind is: how on Earth did they find time to do this? With Wes Anderson spending most of last year stumping for "Moonrise Kingdom," and now in production on "The Grand Budapest Hotel," while his frequent collaborator and pal Roman Coppola (who co-wrote 'Moonrise') also ushered his film, "A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III" into theaters, it seems they have found a brief window within in which to work together again. The duo paired up to make a short film for Miuccia Prada, and the first teaser promises something expectedly quirky and beautifully designed.

This Friday, theatrical audiences can take “A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charlies Swan III.” Starring Charlie Sheen as the titular self-destructive graphic designer, the film is a comedic fantasia about his various alcohol-fueled fantasies and dreams, but it also finds time to showcase best friend and standup comedian Kirby, as played by an acerbic Jason Schwartzman. And while Schwartzman is now a veteran of several movie sets, it’s hard to beat the amount of fun he had building Kirby for Roman Coppola’s second film.

Roman Coppola may only be on his second directorial feature, but as a music video and commercials director, and as a writer and frequent Wes Anderson collaborator -- not to mention handling the second unit on various films from his famous family members -- he has certainly amassed a wealth of filmic experience. All of which he brings to bear on "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III." Destined to be a crowd-pleaser because of its many celebrity cameos, quirky and apropos Liam Hayes music, and lovingly detailed 70s-influenced stylization, the film affords many glossy, knowing pleasures, and we found ourselves really wanting to love it. But that deeper level of engagement just didn't kick in for us for two main reasons: the lack of a strong narrative through line and the lack of dimensionality to the central titular character. The film delivers on its title, but it turns out we need more than just a glimpse.

At first, many were surprised when Roman Coppola chose Charlie Sheen to star in his long-awaited sophomore feature "A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III." The actor was coming off of his infamous meltdown and was largely uninsureable, but what some folks may not know is that the pair have been friends since childhood, first meeting on the set of "Apocalypse Now" (directed by Roman's Dad, and starring Charlie's father). And the project was one Coppola had been brewing for a long time, spurred by his own relationship troubles which he shared with Sheen.

Between his two directorial outings -- "CQ" and "Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III" -- and in his collaborations with Wes Anderson (most recently on "Moonrise Kingdom"), Roman Coppola has certainly shown a knack for the fantastical. He's adept at constructing accessible yet unreal worlds that always offer up a lot to explore visually, and so perhaps it's no surprise that he once tried his hand at making a comic book movie.

Listen, it's pretty much a wasteland at the box office this weekend. The less said about "A Haunted House" the better, while "Gangster Squad" is just plain disappointing (you'd be better off watching these classic gangster flicks instead). Granted, "Zero Dark Thirty" is going wide, but if you'd rather avoid the crowds, there are options if you're just staying in. Roman Coppola's "A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III" is now on VOD, and if you need to know what it's all about, Charlie Sheen is here to tell you.

Jason Schwartzman has already collaborated with his cousin Roman Coppola several times, more recently in the upcoming comedy “A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III.” But while Schwartzman plays supporting roles in Coppola's latest feature-length film as well as his previous one, “CQ,” the actor would be taking on more central responsibilities in two of Coppola’s prospective upcoming projects.

Jason Schwartzman and Roman Coppola are family (they're cousins), so they are never more than a phone call away. But even if they weren't related, we imagine they would have found each other anyway. The duo have forged a relationship that has seen them work together in many capacities -- co-writers, actor/director and more -- and they're clearly on the save wavelength. So, when Coppola made his debut feature, "CQ," it's not a shock that he called Schwartzman for a role. When over a decade later he made his sophomore effort, "A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III," he called Schwartzman again. And now, for the short film "Die Again, Undead One," the pair are once again back together.
