Could the girl with the dragon tattoo move from one twisted tale right into another? According to Twitch, Mandate Pictures and director Spike Lee are hoping the answer to that question is yes, as Rooney Mara is being sought to take the pivotal female lead role in the "Oldboy" remake.

Is it just us, or are trailers getting shorter? Obviously, there have always been brief teasers around, but even the final clips rarely seem to top out over two minutes these days, happy to tantalize audiences with money shots and the "Inception" fart-trombone noise -- the days of old, with four-five minute trailers, sometimes even introduced by the cast or director themselves (like this all-time favourite of ours) seemingly long gone. Of course, you can rely on David Fincher to buck that trend.

Last night, advance screenings of Screen Gems' "Straw Dogs" around the country were preceded by a pleasant/nasty surprise from parent company Sony, in the form of an eight-minute preview of David Fincher's Feel-Bad Movie Of Christmas, "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." While it was cut together like a trailer, and it may surface online, it was strictly for the hardcore fans, and, while un-spoilery, did indeed lean towards the R-rated end of the spectrum.

Rooney Mara Reportedly 'Locked' For Lead In Warren Beatty's Howard Hughes Film

But Andrew Garfield Apparently Won't Be Doing ItAfter the publication last year of Peter Biskind's biography "Star," his victory in a "Dick Tracy" lawsuit, and his wife Annette Bening's Oscar-nomination this year, Warren Beatty has been more visible of late than he has been in a decade; the actor hasn't directed a film since 1998's "Bulworth," and hasn't been on screen since the 2001 train wreck "Town & Country." With all this attention, the 74-year-old star has done something productive with it; namely, started moving towards a new film: a comedy that seems to be the Howard Hughes project that Beatty's been working on for decades.

While featuring a promising cast of on-the-rise newcomers and comedy veterans, a strong production design, plus a visual aesthetic that proves digital cinematography can be warm and capture light in a pleasing autumnal manner, the one-dimensional indie flick "Tanner Hall," has almost nothing else to redeem it.

Terrence Malick, whose output seems to be exponentially increasing, has no fewer than three projects actively on his docket: cosmic documentary "Voyage of Time;" an untitled Ben Affleck/Rachel McAdams drama rumored to be called "The Burial;" and a third project, starring Christian Bale, which should begin production in the summer of 2012. The Bale film just became a lot more concrete, as relative unknown Haley Bennett has been cast as the female lead, according to Variety.

Rooney Mara, Haley Bennet, Clemence Poesy & Mia Wasikowska Vying For Female Lead; Film Will Shoot In Early 2012For much of Terrence Malick's career, his workflow has been defined by single projects taking years at a time to take shape and finish before he moves on to the next one. Now, it seems the guy is making up for lost time. With "The Tree of Life" hitting theaters this spring, the director currently has his untitled film -- aka "The Burial" -- in post-production and is also at some stage of development with his "Voyage of Time" documentary which recently added Emma Thompson as a narrator alongside Brad Pitt. Earlier this year word cropped up that Malick was starting another film, one that would be small in nature that would potentially shoot late summer/early fall. Not much has been heard since, but it looks like that film is now moving full steam ahead with an early 2012 start being eyed.

It might be one of the most anticipated movies of the year, but we're still relatively in the dark about David Fincher's version of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." There was that attention-grabbing poster of course, and a perfectly-edited teaser trailer, but there's still a lot to come for the R-rated studio-funded version of a mystery tale that's already proven a giant hit both in Stieg Larsson's original novels, and in the Swedish trilogy of films, which launched Noomi Rapace to international stardom.

The summer is just about over and with the fall movie season around the corner, the veil is beginning to lift on quite a few films, but none of them will be as highly scrutinized as The Feel Bad Movie Of Christmas, "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." Chatter has already started around the controversial, semi-nude poster and whether or not the red band teaser was officially leaked (or not). But the marketing on the film is only just beginning and after the official website was boosted yesterday with character bios and a generous helping of Trent Reznor's score, EW has revealed the first still from the movie with Rooney Mara in the title role as Lisbeth Salander.
