You know the deal by this point, so we'll get to it as quickly as we can. Every year, to draw a line under the awards season, we take a moment to look ahead at some of the possibilities for the films and performances that we could be talking about in the context of the Oscar race in the eleven months to come. We've already discussed the Best Picture and Best Actor possibilities, and now, we've picked out some potentials to succeed Cate Blanchett as the winner of the Best Actress Academy Award.

Few literary adaptations are as hotly anticipated as David Fincher's "Gone Girl." The novel by Gillian Flynn was a bona fide literary sensation, selling more than two million copies in print and digital editions by the end of its first year of publication, and every aspect of the film's casting has been obsessed over. With Ben Affleck in the role of Nick Dunne, whose wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) mysteriously vanishes, leaving him as the prime suspect, it was just a matter of filling out the supporting cast, something that is very near completion with Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit and Carrie Coon joining the film and Tyler Perry confirmed for a role.

Even without being massively fond of many of the films produced from his screenplays (not least his pretty bad directorial debut "London Boulevard"), we're fond of William Monahan and his salty dialogue, best embodied in his Oscar-winning script for "The Departed," and we're always hopeful that he'll come up with the goods. So despite our feelings about "London Boulevard," we're hopeful for his follow-up "Mojave," not least because of the cast he's assembling.

While we're still not quite convinced that Tom Cruise is the right man to be playing hulking Jack Reacher, at least when it comes to the female lead in "One Shot," they got it right.

With "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" already in the can and coming out this December, Adam Shankman's "Rock of Ages" musical currently shooting, and "Tron: Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski's "Oblivion" prepping up for a summer 2013 release, Tom Cruise is making plans for his next big tentpole vehicle. This time it's an adaptation of Lee Child's 2005 crime thriller "One Shot" that is being set up over at Paramount. Being scripted by Cruise's go-to screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie, who penned "Valkyrie" and 'Ghost Protocol,' the writer practically tailor makes scripts for the superstar whenever the A-lister is interested or semi-interested in a project.

'Eastern Promises' Scribe Steven Knight Rewrote Script, Gemma Arterton Nowhere To Be SeenIt's almost exactly a year since "Clash of the Titans" opened, overcoming some tough competition, a beyond-shoddy 3D conversion and terrible reviews to pick up a hugely impressive half-billion dollars worldwide. While filming has been underway for a few weeks in the U.K. on the yet-to-be-officially-titled sequel ("Wrath of the Titans" has been bandied about, but never confirmed), Warner Bros has sent out a press release to officially announce the start of principle photography, and it's confirmed a few cast members, as well as giving the first detailed description of the plot.

Last month, it was reported that a number of actresses were screen-testing for the love interest role of Andromeda in the "Clash Of The Titans" sequel. Among the contenders listed at the time were “Captain America” star Hayley Atwell, Clemence Poesy (”In Bruges”), Janet Montgomery (”Black Swan”), Georgina Haig (”Wasted on the Young”) and Dominique McElligott (”Moon”) but a name recently linked as a candidate for a role in Zack Snyder's "Superman" has landed the gig instead.

Speculation surrounding Zack Snyder's "Superman" shifted direction earlier this week when it was revealed that Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike were all vying for a lead female role in the film that was not Lois Lane (though yes, despite some confusion, that character will still be in the film). Guesses were made at what the role might be -- Lana Lang or Cat Grant perhaps -- however, the part might be one that we've seen before.

Well, here's a bit of an interesting twist. Following the signing on of Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent in Zack Snyder's "Superman," speculation quickly turned to who will play Lois Lane. But word emerges tonight that the hunt is on for a female lead for a character that is not Lois Lane.
