Ron Howard hasn't just been sitting around narrating the upcoming episodes of "Arrested Development." The director has putting the details on his next feature effort, the true story racing saga "Rush," and while a movie about gears and waving flags might seem like a drag on paper, he's chose a helluva tale to spin on the big screen. And a new trailer is here to give the dudes from "Fast & Furious" a serious run for their nitro.

Just a couple of days after the UK trailer came tearing around the track, we now get a U.S. spot for Ron Howard's racing drama "Rush" along with some new pics for the movie that's revving its engine pretty hard, pretty early. We're still months away from the film arriving, but perhaps Universal realizes that racing movies probably need a bit of a harder push than other genres. Good thing that so far, it looks pretty rock solid.

The racing genre as a whole doesn't offer a lot to choose from, particularly when it comes to dramas that just stick to the race track and don't burn your retinas like "Speed Racer" or jack up your experience with 'splosions like the "Fast & Furious" franchise. In fact, it's been a while since we've had a movie set strictly on the race track, but Ron Howard's "Rush" is not only getting behind that wheel, but also telling a great story.

While we've seen paparazzi snaps on set of Ron Howard's Formula 1 racing drama "Rush" -- or rather, "epic action drama" if you go by the official synopsis -- the official website has unveiled the first official photos from the film. Written by Peter Morgan ("Hereafter," "The Queen"), "Rush" reteams the "Frost/Nixon" writing directing team for a re-creation of the merciless 1970s Formula 1 rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda, played by "The Avengers" and "Snow White and the Huntsman" star Chris Hemsworth, and Daniel Brühl, known for his turn in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds."

Only a few years ago, it seemed that you'd only get blockbuster releases between May and July, and clustered around Thanksgiving and Christmas (for more family oriented fare, at least). But any kind of release calendar ghettoization has long since fallen apart: March is now one of the key dates in the release calendar, and almost every month of the year sees at least one studio put out a hugely expensive blockbuster. 2013 looks to be the most unrelenting year yet, from the release of "Gangster Squad" on January 11th through to the second "The Hobbit" at the end of the year, almost every week has a giant film on release. And one of the larger gaps on the calendar seems to have been filled.

At the moment -- though we expect at least one or two of these movies will blink and move in the next few months -- Christmas Day is gonna be a pileup of high profile movies with "Playing The Field," "The Guilt Trip," "Django Unchained" and "The Great Gatsby" all set to open. And the latter two films are already pulling out the big guns. 'Django' screened footage in Cannes and has a teaser trailer dropping at any day now, while 'Gatsby' already got a full trailer out of the gate. And if you can't get enough 'Gatsby,' well, here's a bit more for you.

Sure, I know we all wish that Ron Howard was making “The Dark Tower” right now, but hopefully he’ll still be able to get around to that sooner or later. Instead he’s making “Rush” – a biopic that’s starting to look very box-office friendly after the relative success of last year’s Formula One doc “Senna,” and the continual rise of one of its stars, Chris Hemsworth. Hemsworth will play James Hunt, whose rivalry with Daniel Bruhl’s Niki Lauda will be the driving force (badumtish) of Howard’s film.

We've always been intrigued as to how the sport of Formula 1 could crack the big screen, especially after 2001's disastrous "Driven" starring Sylvester Stallone. As dramatic and illustrious as the sport can be, at its core it's still a slow-burning, strategic game of inches set mostly under helmets, on radios and in garages with a limited following -- the race itself hasn't hit American shores since 2007, for instance, although is returning to Indiannapolis this year.

Steven Spielberg has John Williams, J.J. Abrams has Michael Giacchino and Ron Howard has Hans Zimmer. At least lately. The latter helmer has hired on Zimmer for this last four movies -- "The Dilemma," "Angels & Demons," "Frost/Nixon" and "The Da Vinci Code" and they are set to team up once again.

'360' Writer Tells Us Freddie Mercury Biopic Is Waiting For Sacha Baron Cohen, Motor Racing Won't Be Focus Of Ron Howard's 'Rush'Exclusive: Getting two Oscar nominations in two years tends to make your inbox a little fuller than it was before, so it's no surprise that picking up nods in 2007 for "The Queen" and 2009 for "Frost/Nixon" has made Peter Morgan one of the busiest screenwriters around. The British director has since worked with Tom Hooper and Clint Eastwood, as well as penning Fernando Meirelles' latest, "360," which opened the BFI London Film Festival last week.
