Sundance may be over for another year, but as Gordon Gekko mercilessly taught us: money never sleeps. So even though Park City has born witness to their annual mass exodus, there are still some films hanging around waiting to be bought and we have news of six films that have snagged distribution deals.

Sundance Review: 'Safety Not Guaranteed' A Grounded, Genuine, Oddly Effective Charmer

Although at this point there are way too many stories about quirky man-children and the women who love them, “Safety Not Guaranteed” is an oddly effective little charmer. A film that harkens back to the magical-realism adventures of the 1980s rather than the twee dollhouse making of the last decade, Colin Trevorrow’s tale of a trio of journalists who investigate a personals ad from an oddball requesting a partner in a time-travel experiment is far more grounded, genuine, and moving than its conceit suggests. At the same time, there’s little that’s especially new or original about “Safety Not Guaranteed,” but it ekes out a victory over so much of its indie-darling competition simply by following through on the ideas it introduces.

If you had the chance to go back in time--weapons provided--would you? Before you answer, ask yourself: is going to another point in time really better than cleaning out the toilet at your internship and not having other options? Well, you'd be in the same boat as "Parks And Recreation" star Aubrey Plaza in “Safety Not Guaranteed,” which premiered to near-universal praise at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday. Based on the fake ad that spawned the legendary YTMND meme, the first feature from writer Derek Connolly and director Colin Trevorrow takes us to a world where time travel may be possible. So could the fact that Kenneth (Mark Duplass), the would-be time traveler, is as crazy as he sounds.

Geez, just when you think you have a handle on this year's awards race, the Sundance Film Festival has dropped their first wave of titles headed to Park City in January, and this is the start of the Oscar journey for many movies. This year alone saw Brit Marling break out with "Another Earth" and "Sound of My Voice," Felicity Jones impress with "Like Crazy," Elizabeth Olsen earn Oscar talk with "Martha Marcy May Marlene" and other movies of note unspooling, including "Being Elmo," "Margin Call," "Circumstance," "Our Idiot Brother," "The Interrupters," "Undefeated" and more.

We probably don't need to tell you about our admiration for Aubrey Plaza, and we're glad to see the actress rightfully getting her due with the lead role in the upcoming "The Hand Job" featuring a wealth of comedic talent. But another project, also featuring Plaza, will mount first and she's joined once again with some strong players at her side.

Even the most casual dabbler in Internet jokes have seen the ad at the bottom of this piece, a baffling classified entry that holds infinite potential for a good story (and apparently 834509 memes). However, aspiring screenwriters better minimize their pirated Final Draft because filming has already begun in Seattle on "Safety Not Guaranteed," the movie inspired by the ad that's being directed by Colin Treverrow from a script by constant cohort Derek Connolly. After working in some smaller TV production and movies, the Duplass brothers have taken the two under their wing and seem to have wrangled the right kind of talent.
