Saint Laurent
If you've been waiting for a movie about legendary fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, 2014 is your year. In February at the Berlin Film Festival, Jalil Lespert dropped "Yves Saint Laurent" with Pierre Niney in the lead role and... it wasn't very good. Then a few months later at Cannes, Bertrand Bonello's "Saint Laurent" arrived with Gaspard Ulliel in the title part and it too wasn't very good. But still, you're going to probably watch one of these, so why not the one with Léa Seydoux?

Saint Laurent
Biopics are still the trickiest genre to pin down. Try to tell it straight up, and you’re in danger of boring your audience with too much of a formal approach, like the existing Steve Jobs movie. Try to pick a certain aspect of a famous person’s life, glamorize it for entertainment value and you turn out a mess like the Cannes opener “Grace Of Monaco” to disappear into obscurity like the “Diana” movie you probably never saw. So when someone with the kind of stylistic flair and peculiar approach to filmmaking like Bertrand Bonello comes along to tackle the biopic, the only certainties are that he’s not telling it conventionally and it’s bound to get a little messy. His exploration of fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent, competing for the Palme D’Or this year, immerses itself in both principles and emerges as a failed attempt at visualizing artistic soul.

Willem Dafoe is now joining the diverse ranks of Bill Hader, David Bowie, Guy Pearce, Jared Harris and Crispin Glover in donning the platinum wig to play pop art icon Andy Warhol. The actor has joined French filmmaker Bertrand Bonello's "Saint Laurent," a biopic about the famed fashion designer. Not to be confused with The Weinstein Company movie also in production, this much starrier endeavor features Gaspard Ulliel in the title role, with Olga Kurylenko, Jérémie Renier, Léa Seydoux, Louis Garrel, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi and Amira Casar in support. Cameras are rolling on the film which is already slated for a May 14, 2014 release in France. Can you say Cannes?
