It takes some audacity to open your film with an homage to "Sunset Boulevard," but that doesn't seem to worry Clark Gregg. A journeyman actor valued by filmmakers like David Mamet, Gregg has had a dynamic few years, making his directorial debut with Chuck Palahniuk adaptation "Choke" and an attention-getting role in "The Avengers." Bold as all that may be, he has used this clout to front "Trust Me" as both an actor and director, and you wonder if this reliable screen vet isn't stretching himself a bit thin at this point.

Here's the thing about film festival season. While it brings with it numerous high-profile titles that bloggers and movie fans have been following since day one, there is also a handful of strong movies we simply forgot about. Case in point: "A Single Shot." The long-developing picture firmed up its cast last spring, and went in front of cameras, and it promptly faded to the back of our minds. But today it was announced by the Berlin International Flim Festival as part of their Forum section, where it will be making its World Premiere. And a whole host of images for the movie have cropped up to give us a first peek.

Almost as legendary as the films Stanley Kubrick did complete in his lifetime are the numerous projects that went unmade, but a few of those are getting a new lease on life. As you might recall, last spring, word surfaced that "Lunatic At Large" was headed toward the big screen with Scarlett Johansson and Sam Rockwell attached to star and Chris Palmer to direct. Not long after, "Downslope" and "God Fearing Man" joined 'Lunatic' on the production slate and then...nothing else was heard since.

Well, you knew something had to break. After his Best Acting Oscar nomination for "The Hurt Locker," Jeremy Renner's stock in the star market rose astronomically and he attached himself to several tentpoles ("Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" being the biggest) and even flirted with the first iteration of Paul Thomas Anderson's Scientology project. But something in his schedule had to give and that's become an indie called “Better Living Through Chemistry.”

In the admittedly tiny sub-genre of harrowing-late-1990s-domestic-dramas-starring-Ray-Winstone-and-directed-by-well-respected-British-character-actors-who-have-yet-to-make-a-second-film, Gary Oldman's "Nil By Mouth" just has the edge -- underrated to this day, the film showed an assured hand from Oldman, and has two towering performances, by Winstone and Kathy Burke, the latter of whom picked up Best Actress at Cannes in 1997. But that's not to undervalue Tim Roth's "The War Zone," an adaptation of Alexander Stuart's novel examining incest and sexual abuse in a Devonshire family -- it's incredibly powerful stuff, and it's a shame that Roth has never followed it up.

Comic Crime Caper To Hit Theaters In Early 2012When Harvey Weinstein aggressively goes after something he usually gets it. Case in point. The Weinstein Company honcho has acquired domestic distribution rights to Aussie director Andrew Dominik's follow-up to “The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford” (a picture that won Brad Pitt one of his first major awards; 2007's Best Actor prize in Venice). Thanks to his new bevy of investors, Harvey has dollars and clout and apparently slapped down a $20 million dollar promise for promotion and advertising alone for Dominik's latest, "Cogan's Trade," a pretty weighty pledge for TWC.

Despite Rumors, Reps For Zoe Saldana and Josh Brolin Say The Two Actors Are Not InvolvedNeedless to say, we've been aching for a new film from Andrew Dominik who dropped the masterpiece "The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford" that was bungled by Warner Bros. and pretty much ignored by audiences (for shame). Well, for his next pic it looks like he's getting the Jesse James gang back together. Brad Pitt is already locked in and now, another actor from 'Assassination' is officially on board.
