With a list of directors like Steven Spielberg, Lynne Ramsay, Jim Sheridan, Harmony Korine, Anton Corbjin, Charlie Kaufman and Michael Winterbottom on her resume, actress Samantha Morton certainly had more than enough experience to draw upon when venturing out for her own directorial debut "The Unloved." Premiering way back in 2009 at TIFF, the made-for-Brit-TV movie stars Molly Windsor, Robert Carlyle and Susan Lynch and tells the story of a young girl plucked from her abusive parents and placed into woefully inadequate government care. We caught the film at MIFF last year and called it "a compelling work of cinematic activism." And while it unfortunately never got picked up for a theatrical release, it heads to DVD next Tuesday and Morton is doing the rounds to promote her movie.

Casting News Explosion Includes Rob Riggle As Villain In '21 Jump Street,' Tim Roth In 'Arbitrage' & Much MoreJay Baruchel is joining the cast of David Cronenberg's "Cosmopolis." The rangy young actor will play a "financial whiz kid" in the film, who makes a fortuitous gamble over the course of the film's single-day narrative. Baruchel is joining a loaded cast, including Robert Pattinson, Samantha Morton, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti, Mathieu Amalric and Sarah Gadon. Baruchel will next be seen in the Michael Dowse-directed "Goon," which he co-wrote with Evan Goldberg, before lending his voice to the second film in the "How To Train Your Dragon" series. Update: First tipped by C7nema and confirmed by reps for the film, Kevin Durand ("Lost," "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"), Emily Hampshire ("The Trotsky") and Patricia McKenzie have also joined the film playing Torval, Jane Melman and Kendra respectively.

While Samantha Morton has briefly flirted with the tentpole world, memorably playing opposite Tom Cruise in Steven Spielberg's "Minority Report" (and she has a role in the upcoming "John Carter of Mars"), the actress have carved out a fascinating career largely built on selecting parts in uniquely independent films. In recent years she has starred in Oren Movernman's "The Messenger," Harmony Korine's "Mister Lonely," Anton Corbijn's "Control" and Charlie Kaufman's "Synecdoche, New York." And she's now adding one more acclaimed director to her list.
