Bromance alert! Having already palled around on "Horrible Bosses," and getting set to hang together on "Horrible Bosses 2," it seems director Seth Gordon and stars Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day just can't get enough of each other. (Someone give Jason Bateman a hug).

The writing was on the wall as soon as director Bryan Singer retreated to the “X-Men” franchise for next year’s “X-Men: Days Of Future Past.” “Jack The Giant Slayer” was destined to be a money-loser, looking like just another post-”Alice In Wonderland” fantasy epic but costing somewhere in the vicinity of an improbable $200 million. With Warner Bros. putting out a quiet ad campaign for the film, scrimping money off the ad budget was the only way to save face: 'Jack' is poised to take a major bath this weekend, coming in under the minimum $30 million the studio was hoping for.

When studios screen comedies for critics, there is typically an audience there, no matter how far in advance the screening. The reason, of course, is that an audience responding to a comedy in a positive way has a kind of transformative power – laughing and having fun with your fellow moviegoers is something that you actively want to engage in. And it is a good barometer for whether or not the movie will be a success – when we saw "Ted" last summer, we weren't too crazy about it, but the audience went ape shit. (This translated to one of the biggest R-rated comedies ever.) At a recent screening of "Identity Thief," the new high-concept road movie from Universal, a packed audience responded politely but not enthusiastically.

Revamps of classic fairy tales are like so hot right now, and with Disney hard at work prepping a new twist on the Sleeping Beauty story with the Angelina Jolie-starrer “Maleficent” it should come as no surprise that a rival project has reared its head. Producer Neal Moritz is busy prepping a comedy take on Sleeping Beauty which will presumably be to "Maleficent" what Tarsem’s “Mirror Mirror” was to “Snow White and the Huntsman.” Moritz’s work is usually confined to the action genre, although he does occasionally work on comedies and has most recently overseen “The Bounty Hunter,” “The Change-Up” and “21 Jump Street.” That last credit is probably one that will pique interest, but...yeah, this is still a pretty terrible idea. Even though it managed to break the $200 million barrier at the box office on a $35 million budget, the cold critical reception that greeted Seth Gordon's "Horrible Bosses" saw it fall short of the bar raised by other recent summer comedy blockbusters like "The Hangover" and "Bridesmaids." That performance, however, will evidently be more than enough for New Line to work with, as the wheels are now well and truly in motion on a sequel to the 2011 pic.

Seth Gordon’s latest directorial effort, with “Horrible Bosses” cohort Jason Bateman and “Bridesmaids” scene-stealer Melissa McCarthy in the leads, has steadily been coming together in recent months. And now set to hit next summer, it seems as if “Identity Theft” will start rolling any day now.

Seth Gordon, we like you. We ranked "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters" very high on our Best Documentaries of the Decade list (the aughts) and its still holds up. While you didn't end up directing "Celeste And Jesse Forever" and you still have yet to make "The Only Living Boy in New York" and "Identity Thief" (your next project which starts shooting next week), they all sound like interesting projects which suggests you have good taste. Strengthening that posit is your TV work. You've directed good episodes of sitcoms we enjoy like "Parks and Recreation," "Community" and “The Office,” and assume you could knock a “30 Rock” ep out of the park given half the chance.

While “The King of Kong: Fistful of Quarters” documentarian Seth Gordon got off to a rough start in his narrative filmmaking career with the Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn-starring “Four Christmases” in 2008, he’s had a nice rebound with this past summer’s serviceable comedy “Horrible Bosses,” and a slate of projects that include the Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman vehicle “Identity Theft” (shooting this summer), an ill-advised remake of “WarGames,” and the long-gestating faux documentary redo of “The King of Kong.”

For a while there at the tail end of the '90s, it seemed like Amanda Peet was poised to be the next big thing. And then....well, that didn't exactly happen. Not that she stopped working, but it seems she wisely decided to work with respected talent on films like "Melinda & Melinda," "Syriana" and the severely underappreciated "Please Give" while still paying the bills with odd blockbusters like "2012" here and there. But her name is being mentioned a bit more these days. She's got a role in Terrence Malick's untitled romance, a new show on NBC, and now she's headed back to the big screen to deliver some comedy with two of the best in the business.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. With "Bridesmaids" arriving in theaters on May 13th last year and becoming one of the biggest comedies of 2011, and suprisingly, an awards season player, Universal isn't rocking the boat with the next big Melissa McCarthy comedy.
