Ever since the end of February, fans of jokes about boobs, lazy pop culture references and dinner theater crooning have had one question: would Seth MacFarlane return to host the Oscars? The "Family Guy" creator and "Ted" director was a divisive choice for this year's ceremony, some finding him a breath of fresh air, some finding him laugh-less and not that much more modern than Billy Crystal the year before (guess which camp we're in...)

Was it beginner's luck, or is Seth MacFarlane the new R-rated comedy king? With his feature directorial debut "Ted" taking over $540 million worldwide last year, it certainly went way above and beyond what anyone was expecting of a movie with a talking, foul-mouthed teddy bear and Mark Wahlberg. And Universal is hoping MacFarlane will do it again with "A Million Ways To Die In The West." The film carries another high-concept premise, except there will be a couple of small changes: MacFarlane himself will take the lead role, and it will boast even more stars than his last effort.

Not longer after his gig hosting the Oscars this year -- an effort which produced mixed results, at best -- Seth MacFarlane was asked on Twitter if he would like to do it again, to which he replied, "No way. Lotta fun to have done it, though." But regardless, it looks like the Academy want him back.

God bless the internet and modern technology, or pehaps take it as a sign as to how much of a misfire the Oscars were on Sunday, but in less than 48 hours we're already seeing improvements to the show. This morning, a much, much better video montage tribute to the James Bond franchise arrived and now, a response has been filed to Seth MacFarlane's pretty dumb "We Saw Your Boobs." Ladies, your rebuttal has arrived.

While you can continue to debate the merits of Sunday night's Oscars hosted by Seth MacFarlane (as we have already done), the bottom line is the Academy got what they wanted by hiring the edgy, younger skewing, "Family Guy" creator. The ratings for the show were up in 2013 with 40.3 million viewers tuning in, the highest figure since 41.3 million turned on their televisions to see if "Avatar" would win Best Picture. (It didn't.) Anyway, if the Academy wants to go with the same gameplan next year, they'll have to find someone else.

For what it's worth, the ratings for last night's Oscar show look to be up, suggesting that the Academy's gamble with Seth MacFarlane paid off (although, the fact that six of the Best Picture nominations made over $100 million is probably the most significant factors). But creatively, things were a little more mixed, most can agree.

The Oscar show always seems to be a mix of time honored tradition and off-the-wall experimentation (remember that Cirque Du Soleil thing last year? Pharrell playing in the balcony of the Dolby Theater?) and 2013 was no different. While the Academy tried to court younger viewers by choosing "Family Guy" creator and "Ted" director Seth MacFarlane to host, the decision to pay tribute to movie musicals appealed distinctly to an entirely different demographic. So no surprise, the show was a mess.

Missed the 85th Academy Awards last night for some reason? Not into it? Just sort of put off by Seth MacFarlane's perennially self-satisfied and smug smirk? Perhaps you watched, but went to bed during the 6th hour when you knew there were still 45 nominations to go? We can't fault you either way, but in case you happened to miss the show -- the full list of winners is here -- or just got sick of how longwinded and or overly musical it was, you can watch the entire thing on Hulu. Hell, we won't even spoil it for you in case you missed it, but if you did, we warn you, it was long, erratically paced (slow and then hurried and then slow again) and the jokes were funny and then they weren't. Inconsistency was the name of the game.

It's got to be pretty good to be Seth MacFarlane these days. He has roughly thirty-eight hit cartoon series on Fox, his first movie, last summer's "Ted," made half-a-billion dollars worldwide, he's hosting the Oscars, he's doing it with the Khaleesi, and people still humor his career as a lounge singer for some reason. And now, he's landed an Oscar-winner to co-star in his next film.

Having a $500 million dollar hit with "Ted," leading Fox's animation domination with "Family Guy," and set to host the Oscars in February, things are going pretty well for Seth MacFarlane. And he's not wasting any time in striking while the iron is hot, as he's lining up his next movie outing, and no, it's not going to be the feature version of his hit show that he recently talked about.
