'Hanna' Co-Writer Seth Lochhead To Pen Josh Trank's 'Shadow of Colossus'

When word came out early last summer that Sony was going ahead with an adaptation of the video game “Shadow of the Colossus,” it was perplexing to say the least. Many wondered just how they would go about pulling it off. Now THR reports that Seth Lochhead, who co-wrote the Joe Wright film “Hanna,” will be working on the script. “Chronicle” director Josh Trank is still attached to direct.

After a few years that have seen studios deciding to focus on trying to make movies out of board games, it looks, from the last couple of days, as though video games are cycling back around as the hot source material. Monday saw Michael Fassbender announced as the star and producer of a film based on Ubisoft's hugely popular "Assassin's Creed" franchise, while yesterday a movie based on the long-running "Deus Ex" series was set up at CBS Films, Sony's "God Of War" film got new writers, and Dreamworks' "Need For Speed" got a firm 2014 release date.

Having delivered a handsome sleeper hit on a thrifty budget, everyone wants to work with director Josh Trank. The 26-year-old helmer was the man behind "Chronicle," which made back its $12 million budget ten times over on release in February, and since then he's been lining up all kinds of projects; while he won't direct any "Chronicle" sequel, he is attached to a film version of Soviet-themed comic book "The Red Star," and is developing not one, but two major superhero franchises, in Sony's "Venom" and Fox's "Fantastic Four."
