As we scramble to get our last minute Christmas shopping done (damn, it's just a week away), the movie year is winding down in a hurry and soon we'll all be hibernating however momentarily at the homes of friends and family. But once the cork is popped on the New Year, we're jumping back in the grind and it will all kick off with the Sundance Film Festival. And as more and more continues to be lifted on the strong lineup of films playing the fest, details on who is composing scores and providing tunes to number of films have been revealed. So Sigur Ros' latest album Valtari came out last spring and they've used it as an opportunity to corral a number of artists and directors to helm videos for each song on the album. While none will likely top Shia LaBeouf's wang-bearing work in "Fjogur Piano," the Icelandic post-rock group is still attracting big talent to what they have dubbed their "Mystery Film Experiment."

Well, while it doesn't have the uh, "benefit" of Shia LaBeouf's dong, the latest in Sigur Rós' ongoing series of videos for their latest album, Valtari, has rounded up the excellent Ramin Bahrani ("Man Push Cart," "Goodbye Solo") and the results are pretty great.

Also Features 2 Brand New Songs From JónsiCameron Crowe has always been known for his keen ear for music, curating each of his films with a carefully selected soundtrack, but the forthcoming "We Bought A Zoo" marks the first time he's handed over the reins to a single artist. Over the summer it was revealed that Sigur Rós frontman Jónsi would be tuning up the film, but little did we know, Crowe himself would be lending an assist for one of the pieces for the movie.

Sigur Ros has never needed much of a big stage production to get the power of their expansive, orchestral and otherworldly music across in concert. When this writer saw them perform at the intimate Théatre Maisonneuve in Montreal circa the release of Takk, they opened the show with the title track, a giant white screen in front of the stage obscuring the band, who were backlit, casting huge shadows as the music swelled. As they transitioned into "Glosoli," the screen slowly raised, revealing the band, and really that was all they needed to completely have the crowd in the palm of their hand. While Sigur Ros' rising popularity has allowed them -- and forced them, to a certain degree -- to employ projections and other big stage novelties, the music has always done more than any fancy lighting rig could. This dynamic is clearly displayed in the band's solid "Heima" documentary, which tracked them traveling through Iceland and playing acoustic concerts in small and remote towns, with their songs containing the same power and passion as they do in their fuller bodied, large-stage incarnations.

It has been three years since Sigur Ros' last album, Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust, and with the band still on an indefinite hiatus -- and with frontman Jonsi busying himself with a solo career and scoring Cameron Crowe's upcoming "We Bought A Zoo" -- it doesn't look like we'll be seeing any new material from them anytime soon. But not to worry, Sigur Ros fans, they haven't completely closed the tap as they've got a brand new concert movie coming out, just in time for your holiday shopping.

It has been three years since Sigur Rós dropped their last album Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust, a game changer of sorts, one that pushed their epic, brooding and expansive sound slightly to the sound for something a bit more percussive, tribal and poppy than we've seen from the band. Since then, it's largely been radio silence. Frontman Jónsi has embarked on a solo career, releasing the album Go and taking a pretty colorful live show around the world, and of course, he's recently been tapped to score Cameron Crowe's "We Bought A Zoo." But it looks like he's got back together with the band. Earlier this week, Sigur Rós emailed fans with a link that pointed to a mysterious video titled "Inni" without any other info. Well, details are still scarce but this one is getting one helluva splashy debut.

It was just over a week ago when director Cameron Crowe teased on his website that despite earlier indications that the soundtrack to his forthcoming "We Bought a Zoo" would contain lots of Neil Young and Eddie Vedder, another mystery artist was vying for the gig. “I think it’s going to lean heavily into one or two artists, but not necessarily either of them. We did play a lot of Eddie, Neil and PJ during the movie. It’s kind of revealing itself now,” Crowe explained. “There is another artist who is campaigning in the editing room with his music ala Cat Stevens in ‘Harold and Maude.’ We’ll see how far it gets.” Well, Crowe hasn't taken too long to let the secret out.

If there is any real competition to "Toy Story 3" in the Best Animated Feature race at this year's Oscars it will be from DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train Your Dragon." While it was certainly a box office success, the film also won over audiences and critics with the kind of praise that is usually only reserved for films from the Pixar braintrust. One of nicest touches in the film was the hiring of Sigur Rós frontman Jonsi to pen a tune for the film, marking a nice deviation from the standard practice of hiring a pop-star-of-the-movement, though upon further inspection, the move wasn't totally out of left field. Dean DeBlois, co-director of "How to Train Your Dragon," also directed the Sigur Rós tour documentary "Heima" (must watch if you're a fan).
